How do I set up an extractor in rotarycraft?

Ok, so I have an issue making the extractor work using rotarycraft. I looked at 20+ tutorials, and all of them tell me to use things like CVTs, which I can't even get until I actually have an extractor. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to run this thing?

Extractors aren't the easiest things to setup. Until you have the resources, I would suggest a Pulverizer -> Furnace type of ore processing (or something similar) that isn't too hard to build, power, and maintain. Below is a link to an automated setup that I put together with the input of some others. Again, you need some serious infrastructure to build and maintain it.

Things to not forget:

Good power generation (e.g., BigReactors for Magnetostatic engines)
Water supply to the extractor
Bevel Gear underneath set up so the input and outputs are right.

Once you get one going, it makes for incredible results. Good luck.

Well, I actually wanted to set up a reactorcraft reactor, and honestly I find it utterly stupid that you need a reactor to make the tungsten you need for a reactor. I guess I'll pass with reactorcraft if it takes that much power just to run a freaking extractor.

You could also explore the Hydrokinetic option. I just set up a bedrock breaker with it, and it works great. You will need some infrastructure for lubricant, but other than that it's not too hard.

setup two different one, microturbine on one, than either micro with 16:1 gearbox on torque and another 2:1 or a performance with a 2:1. switch manually until you get 4 tungsten than make a jet turbine for bedrock (a drum full or 256 buckets gives 20-24 bedrock dust) than make a CVT

Running a bedrock breaker with hydrokinetics. The bedrock breaker now needs 4 MW to run, and hydrokinetics only generate 512 kW. You cannot chain more than 4 (without bedrock upgrade).

If you provide enough torque and rad/s (512 Nm / 8192 rad/s), all stages of processing will run at the same time. A tier 4 magnetostatic engine at full power with a 2x gearbox in speed mode will work. Note that this will be quite slow though.

Cant you just build 2 chains of 4 Hydrokinetics and connect those with a Shaft Juntion?

That could work, haven't tried it. I basically avoided hydrokinetics as soon as I could, given the current rate of lubricant consumption. 8 of them would use a bucket every 7 seconds or so (if it scales linearly).

Currently, on Monster 1.1.2, I have 6 Hydrokinetics using a 64 drop waterfall running a bedrock breaker.

If you use a Industrial coil setup on a pair of diamond gearboxes, you can run the extractor, albeit slowly. You'll have to change the last gearbox between speed and torque mode to get the job done.

You can run it perfectly on 4 MW power at a 512Nm / 8192rad/s. No fancy switching is needed, but it's going to be slow until you get significantly more power and a CVT for the switching. Once you have a gas turbine and a CVT, it will reveal its true potential as it processes ores at a speed your mining will be hard-pressed to match. At that point, I only switched it on occasionally to process the next batch of 20k ore blocks.

Yeah, I'm using 23b because for some reason whenever i use 25z, I can't get it to launch. Trying to figure out where the issue is. My apologies for not specifying the version.

You can run an extractor with 4 steam engines, if you manually switch a gearbox between speed/torque mode for phase 1/4 and 2/3.

I never got to automate it all the way unfortunately, but I did get some ores processed.

Funnily enough, the first and only cobalt I input (which was kinda why I built the whole setup) only yielded 1 output...

I reccomend using two hydrokinetic engines chained together, with an automated canola farm outputting to a decent number of grinders. (I'd say 16-32, though that would probably be overkill if you don't plan on making more) Use a shaft junction to split the power of the two, with one of the engines powering all the grinders and the other half constantly powering a multi-directional clutch. Set up this clutch so that when you have one lever on, it outputs into a bunch of gearboxes that transforms into 512nm torque, (First stage requirement) another that transforms into 256nm torque, (Fourth stage requirement) and a third that transforms to 1nm torque. (Second and third stage requirement, along with water)

This requires some thinking and a bit of learning, but really sounds much more daunting then it is. Just remember that you need the redstone trail to be going into the multi-directional clutch, which is something that tripped me up a few times before I figured out what was happening. And once you have this set up, it requires no switching gearboxes or really any manual input at all, other then occasionally flipping a lever or two and feeding the machine ore.
It will be slow, however. So very, very slow.

Once you have bedrock, you'll be able to upgrade your power net more easily. I recommend magnetostatics, and whatever energy generation method for RF of your choice, but spamming more hydrokinetics works too. Or maybe a gas turbine with an ECM.
Also, for powering an extractor at maximum one-tick processing speeds, you need 16MW for the first stage, 1MW for the second and third, and 8MW for the fourth.
