I have a FTB (Ultimate) adventure map and would like to convert it to vanilla Minecraft in order to make it available for a vanilla audience as well. How could I convert this FTB map, and is there risk of corruption/crazy floating TileEntities, etc? One option that I glimpsed was modifying the configs manually to match mod blocks with vanilla blocks, but I'm not sure how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you can just load it with vanilla minecraft and all modded blocks will just disappear.

This seems to be true, though I' need to go into MCEdit to check if there are still some floating TileEntities. Moreso, I'm looking to see if there is some way to convert the mod blocks to vanilla blocks, rather than having them disappear.

I'd load it in MCEdit and convert all used modded blocks to matching vanilla ones by writing a simple filter (or using midas).

I don't think that's possible. If you remove all of the mods, you would also lose all of their content. If you want an adventure map for vanilla, you'll have to make it using vanilla.

I think the map//game will crash because of all the modded items and IDs missing ...

Best is to get the seed, and generate it on a vanilla client

Most of the mod blocks are purely aesthetic and could be replaced with vanilla blocks without repercussion, although some of the guts of the project would need to be redone in vanilla, and that's fine.

The game does not crash; most of the blocks are converted to air, according to MCEdit, although there are tons of tile entities laying around. I'll have to do some more research it seems, but I think it will be practical to use MCEdit to convert the map.
