I have no idea how fast they can go. some sites say its 55 some say its 100. also how can I reach this maximum speed. and does the quarry still not work in the twilight area?

You can get a quarry to run off around 46 MJ/t. I'm not sure how that translates into blocks per second, though...
Also quarries have always worked in the Twilight Forest. Whoever said otherwise obviously just wasn't trying hard enough.

Well if you really want to reach the max, you could charge a redstone energy cell, and plop it next to the quarry with the output on max.

Edit: If you gonna use a quarry in the twilight, use item tesseracts or mirrors. Enderchests make the chunk reset.

and the max is 48 mj/s, but is a waste of energy, I rather power it at 10 mj/t, the most efficient one.

I've got a bank of engines at my base, feeding into an energy tesseract (Haven't tested it, but forum information says it only needs one), then there will be an energy tesseract next to my quarry wherever I put it down. this system does work, but I haven't tested it with the increased number of engines.

Energy tesseracts have a maximum transfer of 100MJ/t and an energy loss of 25% of whatever you send through, but to be honest I think it's worth it to build the engines up to 144MJ/t at your base to get an output of 100MJ/t at your quarry in an instant easily

if you place a quarry in the twilight and close the server/ssp world, the chunk will reset and you will lose the quarry.

and the max is 48 mj/s, but is a waste of energy, I rather power it at 10 mj/t, the most efficient one.

this only happens when you place an enderchest down in that chunk. place down an item tesseract and it'll be fine

Around 7mj/t the quarry will be most efficient in energy per block. The max it can take is about 48mj/t, the head will move at about sprinting speed then (looks completely hilarious). So between that 7 and 48 mj/t it increases in speed but gets more inefficient. So how much energy you want to throw at it is entirely up to you.

I personally have 2 HP boilers in my base and nothing to waste the 288mj/t on, so I just power them through a tesseract at full speed.
