How can I grant my friend chest permission without a claim?

I did it on the last server I was on and now I can't figure it out.

Basically I am annoyed that whenever I make a claim if I place a torch or put a block down anywhere outside my claim the console yells at me "THIS IS NOT PROTECTED" and stuff.

So I am playing claimless, and I want to share my chest access with my friend. How can I do that?
