8 covers like a chest, then combine the hollow covers 2 at a time back into a full block?

ah worked like that, thought u need blocks only cut one time and then place them like that.

would be a good idea if those covers can be used for buildcraft pipes too? thought they worked but they only work for pneumatic pipes

For BC pipes you need facades, the covers are only for tubes.
As Elo had stated once: The pipes need to be specially coded to accept the covers, or else it won't work.

Immibis Core adds its own Redpower-style hacksaw and microblocks that I think work on BC pipes... Not tested, but I think I saw that on the original spoiler screenshot for the microblocks...

Also, they're disabled by default in the config.

never heard of the immibis core, do i have it automatically when using mind crack and just need to enable it or is it a mod i need to install first

I think that you can't actually craft the 8 thick hollow block. You have to craft the 7 thick anti cover, place it, and then put one more cover on the side that's short. If you craft 8 hollow covers it just turns back into the original block.

You can use two hollow slabs.
