On my DW20 map, my small EU needs are met by having a magma crucible generate lava from cobble and fed to a geotherm, powered by my Solid Fuel boiler which is fuelled by a steves carts tree farm.

Drains my MJ reserves quite quickly if I plug in a new MFE, but once that's filled, the energy cell soon fills back up again.

Currently on my Single Player World I am using a Wind Mill farm to power what little EU needs I have (jet pack, compressor, etc...). I have 13 wind mills up to a height of about +90 to +95, and they generate about 38 eu/t. They are all connected via low voltage tin cable, and that is connected to a bat box which in turn is connected to an MFE.

Personally I don't really think that using the Solar Panels is cheating unless you are using a chunk loader to keep them running when you go explore, or traverse dimensions.

Well I do have a steam boiler already set up for MJ production but yah steel is had to come by unless you use the cheaty way with traincraft and graphite. I might have to look into a nuclear power plant I'm not sure yet maybe some others will have more more ideas. Only thing with the boilers seems to be replacing the turbine things constantly.
If the vast majority of your power output is through TE machines, you don't use the Turbine very much, so the rotors last a very long time. Just keep your coke ovens and blast furnace rolling and you'll have plenty of steel when you need it for new rotors.

Tier five blaze farm. If you manage to get one roderick second then you are making 300/t which is better than lava.
Note: not many people who play ftb know mob mechanics. A Spawner will spawn a certain mobs in a certain area, but in that area if there is already mobs there then it won't spawn mobs, so you farm should be like this a Spawner in which the mobs spawned are dropped 10 blocks in water and then killed ( using computers is faster) so the Spawner can continually spawn mobs!

the soulshard spawners use different mechanics that the vanilla spawners (at least the higher tier ones do)

But still my observation do prove that you should get the mobs out of the vicinity to increase efficiency.

I am powering the town on our server with a combination of solar and geothermal. I have a pumping station in the nether that pumps the lava into a liquid tesseract, which transmits it into an array of Railcraft 9x9x8 Iron Tanks. I then use liquiducts to pump lava into a genset of 30 geogens. Chunk loaders are in both the pumping station and town to keep things working.

I usually have to relocate the pumping station ever 2-3 real days. With 2 stacked 9x9x8 iron tanks, I can last for about 8 hours or so once the lava stops flowing before I run out.

are you having any issues with the tesseracts? I found that there's a huge bug with them on reddit and none of their solutions are helpful for me

They seem to work fine once I got the channels sorted out and realized that they don't send when a redstone signal is touching them. Had to redesign my setup to isolate the tesseract from the lever for the engines (I gave up on the magma engine and used 2 electrical engines and a geogen instead).

The BC Pump seems to be slightly flaky about when it stops pumping, it gives up and refuses to pump further in a spot when I can still scoop lava buckets right from the area underneath it.

yeah, i just had to move my pump for the same reasons. i gave up on the liquid tesseract and just simplified my gated magmatic TE setup with an energy tesseract powering both the transposer and the pump. hopefully i won't have to move it soon, i'm powering through lava quickly while running this matter fab

Thanks to one Breeder reactor and Thorium Dust out of Monacit i am around 2k EU with nuclear reactors. I cant see an alternative to advanced solars if I want to go higher.

I'm currently using tesseract to gather oil and then refine it to fuel to be used in diesel generator from GT, a pretty good power system so far, enough until I get nuclear power running..

2344 EU actually :)

16x 64EU Thorium
Looks like this

2x 480EU Quad Uranium
and
3x 160 Dual Uranium

Quad Uranium needs to much Copper and efficiency 3 is to low, so I will replace it at some point with Dual Cell reactors
