Hello all! I'm an old guy who's pretty new to Minecraft. I'm actually mostly a console gamer to be honest. But I won a copy of Minecraft for Xbox (gasp!) from Raptr and fell in love in about 3 minutes. It's a lot of fun on the console, but I quickly realized I wanted more. I started playing on a friend's vanilla server, then when he moved on, I started a small Tekkit server of my own. I feel like I'm learning fast, but there's still a lot I don't know. The plan is to start a new server dedicated to FTB as soon as possible. I may lose all my players, but screw 'em, I'm excited.

I became aware of FTB thanks to the Docm77/Monkeyfarm videos. I'm sure you get that a lot.

Also like a lot of people, I've been lurking here, checking daily for updates with fingers crossed. Today I realized that what would finally push things over the top is me actually signing up so ... here I am! You're welcome! So ... where's my mod pack??? ;)

haha most of the people who know about FTB are from direwolf, apparently thats how most people have learned the mods, its good to see someone else who watches monkeyfarm here, *thumbs up*

though its not a bad idea to watch his mod spotlights and such they are excellent for explaining the finer points of the mods,

oh and welcome to the forums.:)

Absolutely - direwolf rocks.

To clarify, my exact path so far is:
  • Get free copy of Minecraft. The game was always interesting to me, but I'd never bothered to try it. My computer's not very good and my kids are always on it playing Flash games anyway.
  • Start playing, love it.
  • Build a crappy-looking cobblestone castle.
  • Google "Minecraft castle" (among many other things).
  • Discover that YouTube has a lifetime's worth of great Minecraft content.
  • Start poking around, find the Yogscast. Be amazed at the world of possibilities that opens up as I watch them play modded Minecraft.
  • Decide to stop being intimidated by mods and give it a try with Tekkit. Kick the kids off the computer.
  • Start a small server, and learn how to administer it.
  • Immerse myself in Tekkit knowledge, but continue to watch Monkeyfarm and Docm77. Wonder what they're talking about when they say, "We were going to play Tekkit, but we decided to play FTB, which has the full support of the mod makers." (Literally I had no idea there was even a controversy.)
  • Decide to learn as much as I can about FTB. Discover slowpoke and Direwolf thanks mostly to the original FTB map videos.
And here I am ...
