I Would like to start dabbling in the mystcraft mod and was wondering if apart from the obvious trading, stealing them from the villagers, making a descriptive book and finding an abandoned library Is there anyway to find the pages in the over-world

sorry if this Is in the wrong place

Once you have the pages for it, I prefer making flat desert worlds to hunt for more pages(or I did). You don't get many other structures and it is really easy to spot the libraries on maps/minimaps.

These days I prefer to cheat a bit and give myself the creative book with all the different pages. I personally use Mystcraft more as a administrative mod and I hate having hundreds of worlds cluttering up my save from all the page hunting :p And it does get old after 5-6 times.

I've gotten to the point where I have a good clean "Overworld work-alike" age file that I just create an age at random, copy the work-alike file over it and edit a few key parts in an NBT editor (new seed/name). It is cool to load up another save's overworld as an age. I've done it to sky block and Paul Soares' tutorial world.

Always remember that in the libraries there is a hidden chest tucked in a corner behind the bookshelves. You generally get multiples of the same pages but throw them in a filing cabinet and it should sort em out for ya

Also sometimes in the chest in the libraries are notebooks. Those now contain (at least in Monster) pages as well.

I usually just pick a direction and head that way for several tens of thousands of block, until I have a LOT of pages in a notebook.

One other thing, though it might have been, maybe, fixed in more recent versions. The more biomes there are the harder it is to find other pages. So if you have BoP and Twilight Forest installed, expect to travel several times as far to find the non-biome pages you want.

I ... ummm ... anyone find normal sun in their legitimate search in a biomes-o-plenty included mod pack? I finally just gave up after I had about 40-45 libraries raided and a bunch of those thaumic circles with the wooden chest on an obsidian tile raided. Dark sun, had it - but normal sun ... seemed RARE.

I made a cheap AE system with 5 1k drives to hold all my pages. Made it easier to search for what I was looking for.

Random will be random. True randomness means there is a chance you could spend the rest of your life searching for that page and still never find it. Or you could find it as the very next page.

ANY specific page is very rare with a biome mod. Typically all I get are biomes.

I spent all of 1.4.7 looking for a dense ore page. I know it was enabled in the configs, but BiomesXL made that impossible. With all the extra liquids being enabled in my pack, I fear I may never get some pages in favor of all the biomes.

How could I make an over world clone? The new mystcraft is so different.

There is a biome controller for that; trying to remember what it's called, but it doesn't allow any biome pages because it uses all the ones that show up in the overworld.

Mystcraft in survival is like the lottery. The majority of people are just never going to win. I'm a strong advocate of just cheating in the pages you want.

You could make an MFR/Tinkers Construct villager smelter to get emeralds to trade to a mystcraft villager for pages/notebooks. If you are the server admin or are playing single player go into the configs and turn off the liquids you do not want because most of them are random junk liquids(Personally I would turn liquid pages completely off because liquid worlds make the game really laggy).

After doing both the library's and the villager smelter the smelter is my preferred method. Sure running through ages is fun but the smeltery is faster and makes your game lag less.
