So i'm trying to spawn ghasts with an MFR spawner so I can make the elusive galgadorian drill. I've got it powered up and everything but it doesn't spawn anything. What gives?

Before you ask, yes i've given them enough room and no, I don't need mob essence (still in 1.4.7).

The permanent one. Isn't that the one you're supposed to use?

EDIT: Weird. I just gave it some mob essence and it worked. I thought you didn't need it in this version?

If you mean reusable then that's the correct one. The ghasts don't spawn immediately so be patiant and prepared when they come bursting forth

Don't they require mob essence though? I tried without and with and it's only with.
Makes my giant vanilla spawner worth it. Generate mob essence with that, cows and blaze farm. Pop out endermen and whatever else comes to mind.

to have ghasts spawn with MFR you need

* a re-useable safari net with a ghast in it
* a MFR spawner
* some sort of power going to the spawner like MJ or EU
* have mob essence in the spawner, be sure it's enough mob essence to make mobs spawn
* have a valid area for mobs to spawn, for example if you've your whole floor covered in conveyor belts, they do not spawn
* as for ghasts, you need enough space for a ghast to actually spawn

Does this mean we still have to rely on them walking onto conveyors/water streams?

the last I tried (which was in 1.4.7) even water would prevent them from spawning. hopefully PC has fixed this, or maybe it's an intended feature as you could just use a grinder right away to kill the mobs

Yeah, but that means multiple power lines to multiple grinders for multiple mobs. I want to have them all feeding into one place then getting grinded down, baby.

No but seriously, for efficiency sakes, I was going to throw my chickens, cows, endermen, blaze, skellies, zombies, creepers and all that shit into one killing room. Have glass contained conveyors so I could witness the buffet of mobs feeding into the killing room.

[DOUBLEPOST=1374222561][/DOUBLEPOST]It also makes it easier to manage the soul essence. Though one kill = one spawn, some of my spawners will be vanilla/TC3 (not sure where shards are from), so I would have excess essence for auto-enchanting.

I once suggested to PC to have the chronotyper also be able to move hostile mobs, he said he'd think about it but that's been a few months ago now and guess he doesn't remember it anymore

In the latest DireWolf20 video, he had slimes spawning on half blocks, in water, and on conveyor belts. No clue how it would work in 1.4.7 though. I left that behind quite some time ago.

I saw that video, but if you looked closely, they didn't spawn on conveyor belts, they spawned on the blocks with no conveyor belts, and then jumped onto them.
if they were able to spawn on conveyor belts, they'd spawn alot more and all over the place. but they did indeed spawn on half blocks and in water
