Help installing Optifine

I have tried, but can not get it loaded.
I followed the directions on the launched.
1 click Edit Mod Pack Button
2. Click Jar mods
3Click add Mod button
4please select the mod to install
5 Clic on Desk top is were I have Optifine folder located .
6 Selected optifine
I click open. And nothing happens.

What am I missing.

You are trying to add the .zip file right?

personally i never use the add mod button i just use edit modpack open folder and drop in the mod for optifine download D5 version and not the one for 1.5

Your reply got me thing, I had optifine in a folder, as stated in my post.
I compressed the folder into a zip fine and I got optifine installed

BUT It did solve my problem.
When I put Sphax Pure BCCraft 128 in, My movement slows so much that in is unplayable. So I keep the texture pack off.
Am I the only one having this problem?
I am using a Mac with 8 Ram running.
I am playing Direwolf and ultimate modpack
