In my current world, I'm trying to scrounge up ender pearls, so I decided to try MFR auto-spawners for the first time.

The short version of the story is, I've got a bunch of animal pens, using fences, with the appropriate MFR blocks in the appropriate places. Everything works fine, the only problem is, I keep getting mobs "leaking" out of the pens... is this because I'm using fences? Would it be better if I walled up everything in something less leaky (like stone, or glass, or whatever)?

It's kind of an amusing problem to have. I keep finding baby chickens in the tiniest nooks and crannies... they fall into the gaps where the redstone conduits run under the floor, I have calves and cows occasionally stampeding about outside the pens. It's quite the circus. :)

I'll tell the long version of the story too, since it might be helpful and/or amusing to anyone encountering this stuff for the first time. It's a pretty perfect illustration of the Great Modded Minecraft Circle Of Joy/Tears... I'll explain.

I want to fly. Therefore I need an MPS jetpack. Therefore I need ender pearls (key ingredient in the crafting thereof). Therefore I need to kill tons of endermen. Now I *could* run around with a +looting sword and hope to find them, hope to hit them hard and fast enough before they despawn/teleport away, etc... in fact I tried that. That's a suckers game. Enter automation, of course.

As an aside, in the past I would use Soul Shards and set up a T5 farm, but now that Soul Shards has (IMHO) jumped the shark, I can't be bothered... it needs endstone fer cryin' out loud. I know the End isn't that big a deal, but for me, by the time I've a) found a stronghold, b) established enough gear to feel secure in trekking out to The End to take on the dragon well... I don't really need a spawner anymore. And it just isn't "fun". Sorry Soul Shards. You're passe.

So, back to the circle. I want ender pearls. Therefore... I need to spawn endermen in an auto-spawner. Ok, so for the auto-spawner to work, I need essence. Damn, that means I need a renewable source of mobs to kill, to make essence. Ok, enter the Breeder. So I get cows and chickens. Now I need to feed/breed them. That means wheat and seeds... Now I need a farm. Oh jebus.

So next thing you know, I'm walling out a 2x2 chunk area in the ocean (yeah, cos I decided to build an island base this time), so I can make a giant, emerald upgraded farm, because why do things small, right? Now I'm running out of cobblestone, amazingly, so I have to build an igneous extruder, and... man, I'm gonna need to pump all this water out somewhere. Now I need a pump.

At various points I keep forgetting why I'm doing the particular thing I'm doing and I have to go back through the circle... " I forget... why am I mining copper now? Oh yeah, gotta make some more liquiducts..."

Diary of a madman, indeed. :) But I'm having fun doing it all.

The most probable solution is to build a 2-3 thick wall surrounding your mobs. I have this problem too, but it's the game trying to balancing out how mobs don't like to be stacked and the fact that you're shoving them into doing so. I know that for my hostile mob spawner, the landing area has 3-4 layers of blocks, no leaks. My passive, yet temporary mob system tends to leak when I exceed a certain amount of mobs.

Good luck ^^.

It's an ongoing vanilla problem. A 2 block thick wall will fix it. Fences in minecraft are one of the worst things to contain mobs.

This thread title made me think a proper response would be, "Maybe try an adult diaper?"
