I've built a Soaryn Super Drive, but I can't figure out how to do the overflow management I want. I want to set it up so that if the cache assigned to a given item type is full, it should redirect to a Matter Condenser, preferring that to any empty and unconfigured caches. Currently I have the first subnetwork holding two storage buses - one attached to the Matter Condenser and the second attached to the second subnetwork. If I set the Matter Condenser to equal priority, it never uses it. If I set it to higher priority, it's using it in preference to configured caches, even if the caches have stuff in them. What's going on?

AFAIK, ME no longer prefers a lower priority storage that already have items over a filtered/formatted higher priority storage.

If you want automated disposal of items using priority you should have:
  • High priority filtered/formatted bulk storage
  • Medium priority filtered disposal
  • Low priority unfiltered/unformatted random item storage
Items will then always prefer the high priority bulk storage. If those are full it will get deposited in the medium priority disposal. If an item is not filtered/formatted in either Bulk or disposal it will get deposited in the random storage. I prefer using ME chests for the random storage so I can easily access it.

Personally, I have started replacing my SSD's with banks of Storage Drawers. It dramatically reduces power requirements because you only have a single storage bus for the whole bank. Maybe I should go post a pic of one of my storage rooms sometime. The interior is 12x25 and 6 tall. It has shelving in the middle as well in rows (using trim as 'rafters' along the top to connect). Anything I need to worry about overflow on, is stored here. Metals are stored in compacting drawers so I have access to blocks, nuggets, and ingots. Cobble is also in compacting drawers for a truly silly amount of cobble storage (since it counts stacks of double-compressed, I have increased my storage capacity of cobble by 81x simply by using a compacting drawer).

Plus, there is something rewarding about being able to walk through a hall of storage. Probably roughly equivalent to swimming through your pile of gold coins.

My next storage project is going to be more ambitious. Remember the gothic-era castle with the library room so tall you had a ladder on a rail to slide around to reach the higher ones? Like two or three stories tall? A similar room of storage. 25 blocks tall. Appropriately decorated in gothic style. Maybe one wall will instead have the huge windows. Vaulted ceilings, chandeliers in the ceiling with Arcane Lamps for light propagation... going to be quite the thing when I am done.
