---Solved!!! I was using the 256x256 not the 128x128 as I had previously thought XD---

Yeahhh, so when I use the SphaxBDCraft with Direwolf20 mod pack support my Minecraft RAM usage jumps to about 94% and Minecraft is using 5GB of ram, roughly, windows uses about 3.25GB of ram when doing normal stuff.

When this happens I get a running out of memory error, through windows not minecraft by the way, and Minecraft itself doesn't crash. Minecraft actually runs relatively fine, but my computer starts to crawl.

I very much like this Texture pack, and i used to be able to run it just fine. I forgot to mention im using the 128x128 version, cause its the best in my opinion.

My specs. if necessary...
Phenom II x4 965BE CPU.
8GB Corsair Vengeance Ram.
ASRock 970 Extreme3 Mobo.
HD 6770 GPU
LG IPS224 22"1080p monitor and HP 20" 1600x900 Monitor

Oh and if this isnt the right place Ill gladly move it.

Bump down your RAM allocated to minecraft. Thanks to crappy coding, Minecraft can actually perform worse when supplied with all sorts of RAM and cause memory leaks and lots of garbage that will lag the game. In Technic, it was recommended that you never use more than 2-3 gigs of RAM, and FTB should be pretty much the same.

It was allocated to 512mb min and 1024mb max, when this happened. Should I lower it even more?

You may need to give it a little bit more. try 2-3 gigs, and see if that helps the matter.

OK so raising it to 3gigs is letting me play without crashing but its still using too much ram, 4gbs. Do you know why its using more than its being allowed to use?

Check out your graphics card control panel, see if there is anything around there. Check your Java as well, it's possible that 4 gigs is set in Java, which would override your FTB.

I dont see anything and I have nothing set in javas control panel. Ive gone back to faithful32x32 pack in the meanwhile... And I may buy 4 more gigs of ram tomorrow and see if that helps at all. Its 25$ so what the hell why not

May i recommend to go down to 64x? The texture does require 4 times less than 128x.

64x = 4096 pixels/texture
128x = 16384 pixels/texture

I think every one of them goes into the ram.

If you downgrade, go with Soartex, it's a beautiful tp, and much better than Sphax in my opinion. Or keep going and go with JSTR, the classiest of all texture packs.

holy crap. Why would anyone need a texture pack more than 128x? That's insane! Heck, IMAO, 64x is pushing it! D:

Well, I'm not talking capability here, I'm talking reasonable-ness! It's Minecraft, for goodness' sake! You don't need anything past 32x in Minecraft, because everything in Minecraft is so blocky anyway!

/me has his mind blown.

I am extremely detail-oriented so I like the greater depth you can get out of a 128+ pack.

Lol my computer isnt that great...

Though starting the game with a 512x512 texture pack takes like 3 minutes to load. I'm figuring thats due to the speed of my hdd. does anyone know if thats the case? It makes sense to me because Its having to load an 80mb texture pack which takes time to load the textures.

If this is the case then wouldnt using a SSD or possibly RAMDisk make almost any computer capable of running minecraft fine, able to run a 512 texture pack? Im actually considering using RAMDisk since i have 12Gb's of RAM now.

If you had a SSD, it would take Minecraft 1/3 of the time to load.

On a RAMdisk, probably instantly, lol.

There's a giant difference between 32x32 and 256x256. Mainly Aliasing. There isn't nearly as much aliasing in items and blocks that your holding, but there still is aliasing in the world unless you turn on Anti-Aliasing with optifine, BUT a 32x32 with Anti-Aliasing will STILL have aliasing on all the items and such, due to the smaller texture size.[DOUBLEPOST=1357620404][/DOUBLEPOST]Im going to go ahead and try RAMDisk and see how fast the Texture packs and game loads at 256x256, then report back here.
