Have specialty requirements for bees changed in 1.12?

In 1.7 I used to use Gendustry Industrial Apiaries with Biome Emulators to allow the temperature/humidity requirements to match, so I could have my apiaries anywhere I liked without issue.

But i've noticed particularly any of my bees that need hellish/arid conditions aren't producing specialties even with hell emulation upgrades. Not sure why, is there some other thing I need to do now?

I’m pretty sure that the climate which allows them to operate is separate from specialties - the biome emulators only emulate the temperature and humidity of the biomes, not the actual biome, so specialties that actually require a specific biome will still do so - I believe that’s how it works anyway.

Naw, there are climate upgrades, but there are also explicit biome overrides. I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I'm a bit mystified myself based on what Bloke is seeing.

Not sure if this could be the problem, but the temperature and humidity values may have to be "perfect" for specialties to be produced, it's not enough with "acceptable".

Yeah was thinking along those lines. The readout from the apiary isn't exact, I can add temp/humidity up/down upgrades and it seems to change every other one, not each time (so it takes 2 coolers to go from "hellish" to "hot" for example). I tried all of the possible combinations of these but no luck.

However, in desperation I went looking for the documentation. The affected bee types all seem to be from More Bees, and it turns out there are some extra requirements I was missing.

Having tested it, now my Wither Bees have a wither skull on top of their apiary and my Apocalyptic bees have a block of TNT, they're producing their respective goodies.

RTFM, I guess...

Ohh damn yeah. Now you say that, I’ve seen that be an issue, Krakaen came across the exact same thing on more than one occasion and I completely forgot :/
