I'm wondering if I disable the GT MATTER Fabricator and enable the default MASS Fabricator from IC2 just long enough to get 8 Iridium and then enable the MATTER Fabricator from GT will it cause problems? I already have a world going pretty well and don't want to mess it up. Please help me if you have any experience or advice and also comment your thoughts about GT :) if you feel like it

The enable/disable toggles in GregTech's config only affect whether the block has a recipe or not. You'll be fine.

Actually you don't have to do that, since there're ways to get iridium (sheldonite, ferrous ore in industrial grinder); besides even after you build matter fabricator, you still need a LOT of power to start producing uum.

Just a note though, if you enable both default matter fabricator and mass fabricator, the matter fabricator will produce 1 uum per 150,000 eu (lesser than mass fabricator), so there's a reason to build a matter fabricator after mass fabricator.

Hilariously enough, the poll is 9-0 in favor so far :D

I'd like to think that more people nowadays are coming to terms with GregTech. Not only does the Mindcrack pack introduce a lot of newcomers to it which are not burdened by clinging to the "old ways", but it is literally a completely different mod at this point than the tentative few beginnings that DW20 spotlighted a month or two back. I've never seen a mod update so quickly and change so much in such a short time... everytime a pack updates and I start a new world, there's more new things to learn and old things to re-learn about GregTech than some other mods have content in total. And though not everything Greg adds is balanced, fun or even sensible, overall there's more and more reason to keep GregTech with each new release. Especially if you invest a little time in the config files to tweak them to your needs and liking. Then it can become amazing - all of the cool stuff without any of the annoying parts.

When FTB was first released, GregTech was grossly unfinished and sparked a huge debate, and public polls ranged around the 50/50 mark. However, the last couple ones I've seen all had an overwhelming majority of pro-votes. The ones that vote contra now are those who absolutely don't dig the style, and that's okay - I've even met people who can't stand Redpower. You can never please everyone at once. But I really think the age of GregTech bashing is quickly coming to an end, and it is earning its place among the "big" tech mods.

may I ask what the problem is with GT?

if you don't like it, play the direwolf20 pack, if you like it, play mindcrack.

isn't that hard.

Erm, hotblack... have you even read this thread at all?

It was created by a person named "ILoveGregTech". He got replies from several people who are experienced users of GregTech.

I'm not sure where you spotted anyone here having a problem with GregTech, because I sure can't.

Hahaha, no Exadra didn't. In the past, GregTech was a wildly debated about subject, and the poll you have up there would have cause huge flame wars in the past, and the end would usually be a lock, by a mod.

As was already answered, you can do that, but why, though? Why not just set the matter fabricator to use less power if you think it should use less power instead of re-adding the mass fabricator? Why not just cheat in the iridium if you really think that you should have those eight iridium for cheap? No one is going to burn you at the stake (well, no one that matters at least) if you decide to play the game how you want to play it, but going through extra hoops is a bit silly I'd say.

Good luck either way!

A little-known fact is that if the Mass Fabricator is enabled the Matter Fabricator is forcibly locked to a fabrication rate of 150000 to make it better than the Mass Fabricator assuming the MassFab is using the default config.

Wait so they will work at the same time?
