I recently upgraded my Ultimate server to 1.1.2 and have been working on building the 'processing plant' to sustain my Mark II fusion reactor. From what I gather, I would need 144 Industrial Centrifuges and 32 Industrial Electrolyzers without any upgrades, but 72 Centrifuges with one OC or 36 with 2 and 16 Electrolyzers with 1 OC. The problem I'm having is with transformer upgrades.

I haven't been able to find a whole ton on upgrades, so I've been testing in SP and my results haven't exactly been consistent. Near as I can tell, the Electrolyzers base max input is 128EU/t and the Centrifuge is 32EU/t. From testing, the Electrolyzer seems to only be able to take one transformer upgrade (Second click opens the GUI), and the Centrifuge can take two (third click opens the GUI). The thing is the outcomes have been erratic. With two transformer upgrades, it seems that one time, the Centrifuges will be fine with EU coming from a HV Transformer that's been stepped down from 2048EU/t, but then another time they'll explode.

The Electrolyzers SEEM happy with one transformer upgrade and 512EU/t, but I've only been able to get the Centrifuges to run without exploding on 128EU/t. IDEALLY, I'd like them to be able to take 512EU/t so I don't need a ton of HV AND MV transformers (The Centrifuges OC'd draw isn't too horrendous, but the Electrolyzers is crazy).

Is it possible for the Centrifuges to accept HV, or should I just 'Be happy' with MV?

There shouldn't be any problems with your centrifuges if you've used two transformer upgrades. Try making a Portable Scanner and right-click with that item in your hand on the centrifuges. It should show how much EU/p they can accept.

Thanks for the tip on the portable scanner... That did the trick. Would be nice if the machines just gave that info (like 'vanilla' IC2 machines), but then we wouldn't need another overly-complex (for what it does) recipe/device.

I have a love/hate relationship with gregtech... It has a bunch of neat machines that I like and don't really want to loose gregtech, but I hate how it jacks with other recipes, disables other devices (massfab, for example - if your device is going to be orders of magnitude more expensive to build and operate, then it should be FASTER, not decades slower...) and creates needlessly complex things like the portable scanner. Things like this where it does not show its upgrades without building a 'scanner' is rather lame.....

I use 1 transformer upgrade and 2 HV upgrades on all my electrolyzers. I use 2 transformer adn 2 HV upgrades on my centrifuges so I can run them directly off of plasma generators. You can fully upgrade the centrifuges with overclockers, but I wouldn't go past 3 on electrolyzers or you will be getting negative return. Currently I have 4 fusion reactors going in my ultimate world.

Thanks for the tips guys. With the help of the scanner, I upgraded all the machines at the 'plant' to support 2048 packets and removed all of the transformers. Also had to replace the 4x insulated that I was going to use with Superconductor wire as it seems the 4x insulated HV wire is too lossy. the machines got spazzy with the 4x cable. Switching to superconductor fixed it.

For future reference, if you don't want to build a scanner (which is enormously helpful), you can wrench the machine (safely pick it up) and mousing over it will display which upgrades are on it.

I was under the impression that when you wrenched the machine, you lost the upgrades...
