So I know that GregTech makes recipes more expensive and what not, and I'm mostly fine with that. What I'm not fine with is the amount of iridium it requires with how rare it is.

I run a private server for some friends and I, and I wanted to know how to increase the generation rate of iridium in the map and how to control what levels it spawns at. I know that there is an option in for rate GregTech's config and I've found it set at 20, but I don't know what changing it will do. If I double it to 40 will that double the rates, or halve them, or something else entirely?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

20 means that it will spawn about 1/5 chunks. 50 is about 1 in 2 chunks. 100 is 1 in every chunk. It spawns at all levels and we can't change that to my knowledge. However you can get iridium using gregtech by going to the End and using the industrial grinder on the sheldonite ore their, so there isn't really a reason to increase the generation by much.

Thanks! We didn't know about the sheldonite so it's not as much of a problem. And also thank you for explaining that the probability is X/100. Just curious, but does that mean if i put it at like 300 there would be 3 per chunk?

Not sure, but I would assume so. I just increased it to 33 for myself to make it a little bit more common and haven't tried testing it with higher numbers. Also if you are using mystcraft you can get the asteroids that gregtech spawns by creating an age using the Sky biome as it is the biome of the End. I think it is a bit of an abuse because you can ignore the void and endermen but it is easier to get to with just a few books.

That sounds like a cool idea, and we might try it. we were using a custom build for 1.4.5 and haven't had a chance to update yet, just waiting for a couple mods to update that just did today.

We would, but between the seven of us we have I think three iridium

Prioritize finding the End Portal and go raid the End. That's probably going to be the quickest way to locate the necessary Iridium.

Like I said, we didn't know about the sheldonite ore in the End, so we didn't know that was where to go for iridium.

I'm not recommending doing it retroactively. I'm recommending doing it now(ish). I'm assuming that, since you haven't said otherwise, you're still low on Iridium, so I was encouraging you to go ahead and go or that solution.

Oh yeah, we definitely plan on doing it now. A stronghold was already found, we just need to get some more diamonds for armor and weapons first.

If the server had Mystcraft added (You are on Minecraft 1.4.6, right? Because 1.4.2 GregTech doesn't have the End Iridium.), you can use linking books to get back and forth to/from the End. A better investment might be a Link Modifier, to make them Following books for easily going back and forth as needed without being forced to deal with the Enderdragon first.
