I'm using Monster with GregTech added.
I'm sorry for posting this here, but the IC2 forums are HORRIBLE, and I know a lot of people put GT in their FTB.

So what I need help with is the unification stuff. I have RotaryCraft with its addons, and every type of ingot and gem keeps switching to a rotarycraft version... which are all completely and utterly useless. I mean, I'm getting chimerite gems from Ars Magica 2 switching to a useless RotaryCraft version. I don't even know why these Rotary version exist, considering the mod doesn't use them, and they have no useful recipes. They automatically switch.
This is the stupidest part. Even ReactorCraft (another Reika mod) gems switch to a useless rotarycraft version!!! Flourite gems switch to a stupid brown diamond looking version, and cannot be used at all.

What I'd like to know is the following:

1 = Is there a way to disable these useless items? Perhaps by making the item IDs 0? or not there? If I do this, will it stop the unification?

2 = I HAVE tried the unification config, and it doesn't appear to do ANYTHING at all. Is there something else I need to do other than turn the certain unifications to off? I've turned everything in the RotaryCraft section of it to false. I've even tried turning unification in general off. Is there anything else I'm suppose to do?

Thanks for the help!

First things first:

The "useless" gems can be crafted into the correct versions in the crafting table. For instance, the Fluorite Gems you get if you smelt the flakes coming out of an RoC extractor can be crafted into regular ReactorCraft Fluorite....whatever the pieces are names. The same for many other gem-like substances. Just put one in the crafting table on its own. Autocrafting with Auto-workbenches or TE cyclic assembers also works.

For metals, how do you unify? I'm using the MFR Unifier and most metals go where I want them to. Alternatives:

(1) Try to craft the metals into blocks and back into ingots.
(2) Use non-RotaryCraft machines to pulverize the ingots into dust, then smelt them back using machines of the mod whose version you want. In my games, RoC aluminum refuses to be converted to TiC aluminum. I just smelt it and turn it into blocks, which can then be crafted into regular TiC ingots.

Now for a question of my own: I found this post searching for "GregTech". It's not in any of the FTB 1.6.4 packs. Did you have any trouble adding it to FTB Monster? Which download did you use?

Well I CAN craft them back into the other types, but then they immediately switch back because of the unifier... lol. It's really annoying.

1 = I don't really have any problems with the metals. It's basically just the gems I'm having the issue with.
2 = Again, if I switch them back to what I want them to be, they just switch back to the useless kind.

As for your question. I've looked into it a little bit, and it seems that FTB made the decision to remove GT from their modpacks because of how he handled the Tinkers Construct fiasco.

Let me get this clear: you craft a Fluorite Gem into ReactorCraft Fluorite Crystals and then they immediately switch back to the gem without you doing anything? Are you using some kind of out-of-game unifying utility? I've never heard of such a thing.

Also, what was the Tinker's Construct fiasco?

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
Try downloading TPPI pack- the config is set so GT doesn't touch anything (including unification).
Greg's printing machine has dictionary functionality.

If you're going in manually; ctrl-f is needed.
Also from what I remember theres 2 config settings; the dynamic unification file of everything and a true/false setting in one of the general config menus.

Also, what was the Tinker's Construct fiasco?

Thats old hat now. Let bygones be bygones.
(talking about it leads to a lot of heated discussion which the mods don't want to read again)
