1. How do I get coal for torches? Currently I'm mining coal ore, but I need power in order to make them into coal. Any easier way? I also have Sand coal ore.

I'm using this guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_suVZdSI91JimQTsgR3ejRt1HbxOM87Sh1OO2Fou6zM/edit

2. There are parts where it says we need to make some bronze machinery, for example, a Bronze alloy smelter. There is no such item in Gregtech. As well as steam boilers/furnaces.
Anyone have an updated guide or a better alternative?

3. In order to make bronze, I need copper and tin dust. Is the only way to crush these down at the beginning of the game to chuck them in an AE Grinder? How else can I dust 'em down so I can make bronze.

4. How do I make bronze ingots from bronze dust? The only real way shows 'crucible smelting'. But that requires power. I can't create power until I create bronze.
I cannot seem to chuck bronze dust in a normal furnace.

5. I've had broken recipes before, I had to use Minetweaker to add a new furnace recipe for iron ingots. Is this recipe broken also? Am I supposed to NOT cook iron ore, and certain dusts?

Yeah, as you can see, I'm having a really hard time right now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

1. Don't use coal, make a IC2 tree tap (5 wood planks) instead and use Sticky Resin to make your torches. 100% renewable source.
2. I don't understand the question - just make all the Bronze Machines to start, including the Alloy Smelter (which will help you with #3). (Edit: Don't use the word "Bronze" in NEI perhaps? It's just called "Alloy Smelter" I think?)
3. Yes, I make an AE2 Quartzstone Grinder ASAP to double my ores but obv you need to find a Certus/Quartzite ore vein to do so. But I think you can also use a mortar and pestle, and possibly even smash ores with the GT hammer itself to get dusts? I dunno because I always go right for the AE Grinder.
4. Don't make your bronze from dusts!! Only at the very beginning to get started. Take a look at the recipe, making bronze from dusts gives less ingots than using the Alloy Smelter... so make that Bronze Alloy Smelter ASAP to conserve your raw materials and make them go farther.
5. Iron ore is smelted like any other modpack, so again I don't understand the question.

GT modpacks are difficult to get going in, they are extremely time-consuming, there are millions of questions while you play the pack... but in my opinion, Gregtech is the greatest mod in all of modded minecraft and it will ALWAYS hold that title. All other mods pale in comparison to what Greg has done with his. I'm a tech guy, not a magic-mod kinda guy... and GT is pure heaven despite the struggles with it sometimes.

I would also suggest you utilize this thread for GT questions, I don't think you'll find too many answers on the General Forum since a lot of folks have never played a GT modpack (or else they played it for one day, hated it, and never returned). Even if you're not playing Infitech, it is still a hugely valuable resource to just read thru the thread and learn from questions/answers...

You also asked for other Guides, but that Survival Guide is the best thing around, as far as I know. The only other resource I use is a good wiki and I give you links to 3 different pages, read the Electricity page since it has a lot of good info, and the last link to the Index is the one I use all the time. Look up Steam Tubines to get into the math on how much steam they use, etc. Very valuable wiki with accurate info.

I don't know why, but I couldn't smelt down iron ore, so i had to create my own recipe using MineTweaker mod. Weird, yes.

But thanks for the help man, this will go a long way. Again, thanks very much! :)

I'm looking forward to progressing through this mod, I'm loving the challenge right now. I have much planned!
