Does anyone know why this was never included in the Ultimate pack?

I added it on two occasions and it works well. But then would relog and would have some server tick errror.

Is there a known issue for 1.4.7?

It most likely wasn't added because Factorization already provides the same functionality via its wrathlamps.

does gregs lighting break the game as much as wrathlamps? (In regards to quarries trying to mine "light blocks" and trees having to grow around them. If he's got around this then I'd say it certainly should be in.

No, it doesn't.

Wrathlamps light a semi-spherical area around the wrathlamp with a radius of about 15 or so

Greg's Lighting spotlights light in a straight line extending from the spotlight for a distance of about 60 blocks. (Note that all three spotlights have the same distance, so the two powered versions are all but pointless if the unpowered one is configured on)

Both mods use similar mechanics to get this extended light: Invisible, walk through blocks that emit light level 15. Greg's interferes with plants less, because it's just a single line of blocks they can't grow into, but both mods will interfere with xycraft tanks forming and other examples.

Note, however, that Greg's Lighting hasn't updated for 1.5.1/1.5.2

So would that be the cause for a crash? Placing it where the light it provides is hitting tall grass? Or am I misunderstanding.

Mostly it just stops trees from growing. Wraith lamps are a lot worse.
