I simply find that the flight mode toggle is nowhere near annoying enough to discount everything else I mentioned and say the GraviSuit is not worth crafting. It could be optimised though by having it de/activated vanilla-style but that's my only gripe.

I am glad that the jetpack still has some advantage, and the GS isn't just better in every single aspect. It's a choice, choice is good. Having one item completely obsolete another is not good, no matter the cost.

So you feel the differences between leather, iron, and diamond armor is a design flaw in vanilla then? EDIT: or diamond sword vs wood sword? Or Batpack VS Lappack, vs gravi chest (in this function there is 0 downside).

Your position seems downright silly if we apply it outside this specific situation, and if it can not be applied universally, you should probably justify it applying to this one.

but that's my only gripe.
Then you seem to absolutely agree with the popular opinion of the thread!

The difference is that armor breaks over time. In vanilla, using diamond armor exclusively will put a constant non-trivial strain on your resources. There is a reason to choose iron instead, and some people indeed do.

Pedantry will get you nowhere. ;)

Your point is noted though.

Edit: Indeed, I considered iron armour to be the optimal armour type in vanilla; easy to obtain, reliably renewable, solid performance.

I will direct you back to your original statement, you specifically eliminated cost from the equation. If cost is a reason one thing can be a straight upgrade, gravi-chest is probably the biggest jump in cost for any upgrade, period. Both in terms of upfront crafting cost, and in terms of power usage for continued use. It uses power at a crazy rate, and some people choose to use jetpacks due to this insane power draw.

i see the point here, but I'd find the argument more valid if the gravisuit was a natural progression from the jetpack, but its not, its a progression from the lappack and the quantum suit chest.

I'd be more inclined to see it have 3 states:

Off: As it suggests, it does absolutely nothing. Doesn't function as a jetpack, lappack, etc (Doesn't consume any energy)

Standby: Functions as a lappack when needed. Requires double jumping to activate flying, 'feather fall' enables after falling X amount of blocks. Consumes a constant but small amount of stored energy(ya know, for monitoring)

On: Functions as it does right now in the on state.

why would you ever bother turning it on?

While this may be true in terms of crafting components, it breaks down if we look at functionality.

Beyond that, even if we examine the gravi's activation method in a vacum it breaks as good design. Having "off", "on", and "draws power like on but is not on" is simply silly design. I would have 0 problem with a toggle, so long as while that toggle was on simply holding space while on the ground made me start going up, or if I walk straight off a cliff I just keep going forward. This way the toggle would be simply "off" and "on", I may not like it as the ideal, but it would at least be consistent and more usable than the current method. As it stands the design is silly and only serves to make it less convenient.

Ok I agree with you here, that i would definitely prefer to just fly using the space key like the jetpack when it is the on mode rather than the double jump right now.

EDIT: oh and the not falling to your death when you have it on which is in my opinion fairly silly
