I just over the last month started getting BAD lag with FTB. When I first launch the game all is well, and stays so for an hour or 2 (an average of 50+ FPS). Then I start getting small lag spikes, mainly when turning(and the FPS drops to around 20 average). These turn into major freezes after about another 20-30 min making the game unplayable. I simply have to quit FTB/minecraft completely and restart the game to clear the problem. When the lag spike happen CPU usage stays at around 20%, so it's not a CPU issue (and the max any 1 core hits is about 50%).
System. (now 3 years old, but still a solid rig)
Core I5 750 true quad core 2.66ghz (http://ark.intel.com/products/42915)
XFX 5770 1gb (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447)
Gigabyte ga-p55a-ud3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412)
4gb ddr3 g.skill ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277)
Windows 7 home pre. 64-bit
Display is an HP 2511x 1920 X 1080 and I always run at native res.
I installed an additional 8gb in the system (for 12gb total) as a test and while windows seemed to startup quicker and was more responsive, the issue with FTB was the same.
I have cleaned out my GPU/CPU fan, I defrag regularly and I keep the drivers up to date. I also changed my java config so it will use up to 4gb of ram. I do have 64 bit java installed. I also kill any programs in the background. I play both FTB ultimate and mindcrack. Using high res textures tends to hasten the onset of lag.
