At the moment I'm still manually putting things in chests, and I think the next thing I need to do is setup a storage system. From what I hear, routers are the way to go. I'm about to setup a quad quarry, so I'm worried that it wouldn't be able to handle the amount of items coming through. I'm on the Mindcrack pack, but I could upgrade to the Ultimate pack if there's anything cool in there.

1000's of furnaces with a golem relay system.

Uh.. I think Ultimate has the cloud storage-y mod?

Applied Energistics?
That is one of the primary reasons I switched from Mindcrack to Ultimate after watching Dire's spotlight of Applied Energistics. I normally enjoy using redpower to sort to both barrels and chests. However, I'm ready try something different and seemingly more compact.

Applied Energistics is AWESOME. I can't wait to get it on the DW20 pack (my friends won't play GregTech and distributing configs is the kind of chore I came to FTB to avoid). It's ultra-compact, virtually lag-free, and more powerful than a well designed Logistics system.

I'm also eagerly awaiting AE in Direwolf20's pack. In the middle of building a new base and this is going to feature heavily in it so I can move stuff around w/o needing to make space for pipes everywhere.

Applied energistics makes any sorting system obsolete, you can access your entire storage from one block, and even search for items. Needs power though, and you have to set up your AE network.

I too cannot wait for the arrival of AE in the DW20 pack. Should make crafting and all of my projects SOOOO much easier. I believe it needs power to operate, could anyone tell me if it works on EU and/or MJ, or one or the other? I really am only producing MJ right now and that would be a problem if AE needed EU to function properly. Thanks!

works on both, but the mod is still a WIP and energy ratio might change for them. and AE isn't exactly an early-game mod, best to remember that.

Thank you both. And yea, I know its kind of end-game, but I like to plan ahead so I always have something to be working towards.

What makes it so good is you can have item tesseracts interact with AE via some of the items AE adds. This means you can set a tesseract next to a quarry and have it get sent immediately into your AE storage and sort it from there if you like. You could even set up an AE system that is designed specifically to sort out specific items to different areas via tesseracts and into other areas for processing, then have the processed goods enter the main AE storage system. For example you can have it export dirt, cobble, sand, etc. towards a tesseract for either recycling or voiding, set up a system to export ores than can be turned into dusts, and then send anything that you want to keep but can't be processed into either a different AE system or into another system such as RP2.

Basically, there are a ton of ways to manipulate AE as well as plenty of ways to sort out some items from others, be it using a multi-step process or a single step one. As one would expect AE also melds extremely well with item tesseracts AE's system for handling items can easily keep up with how much throughput item tesseracts can deal with. Do note though that each item transaction puts more load on your energy usage than the standard power usage for just keeping the system running.

Still want to see items flying through pipes around my base with Logistic pipes here.
AE is just to sterile for my liking. But I understand it's appeal.
And yes I'm aware ultimate doesn't have logi pipes out the box, but it's an easy add that goes in with no conflicts.

I'm totally in love with AE. Not only is the storage very nice, the way the MAC can chain-craft stuff for you is really wonderful. And I love the clean techy look of it.

Before I started using it I thought it might be a bit too overpowered but seeing the costs in materials and power I think it's very well balanced. It's not something you'd start using right away probably.

Before AE, my favorite sorting way was chests with managers and some barrels for wood, rubber, string etc. I still using managers in my LP. But realy want to start AE.
