Is there a reason FPS would drop in newer packs? When I played Ultimate, I would get 18-20 FPS on my laptop (no video card) until i started making a base. It would drop as I added more stuff, and id eventually only be able to play on my desktop.

Now my laptop can't even get more thn 5-6 FPS in DW20 when starting a brand new world. Is there any reason why this would happen?

I got my instance of Resonant Rise (124 mods) to average about 60FPS in RWG with fastcraft and 2GB of RAM allocated. Totally doing a happy dance right now.

8 FPS is the point that Minecraft goes from unplayable to playable for me. 15 is ideal, and everything beyond that is unnoticable.

When I'm playing Skyrim, I usually get 55-60 FPS, and when it drops to 45 the difference is so jarring I have a hard time doing anything. In my current modded minecraft world, my FPS fluctuates from 15 - 35 and it always feels as smooth as Skyrim does at 60. I'm not sure why. Maybe my brain thinks that low FPS 'fits' the blocky world of minecraft, but is pickier when the graphics get more realistic?

Well
On My old pc 20fps was Nice.
Ftb always 8-10fps. and that was Ok for me. until i got that old gpu cofh core issue. now
If i Change some settings i get over the 1000 Mark in vannila and New ftb World like 300
But i Dont have that much RAM so hardmode is little Bit laggy But that is fine

So unless you Dont play pvp you should be fine with like 10< or even less

If you have FPS higher than 25-30 you need to build more tech/magic and automate more :p

Start out fine with fps in 100-200s, but always gravitate towards 15-20 in the centre of my base the longer I play. I love a huge complex and dense base but eventually it gets too much (doesn't matter what system you have). Eventually I have to start spreading stuff out to off-site locations to prevent further degradation.

Haha, you're probably right. Knowing my computer I'll probably get 5 FPS after making an igneous extruder, though...

I've also found that Vanilla generally has the same FPS as my modded worlds. Is this normal?

Any modded MC world basically starts out as a vanilla world. It is what you do after that which usually impacts fps greatly.
(Certain world gen can make a slight difference)

TL,DR: Most games make me sick/uncomfortable when I play them. I would really like to know the source of this.
***
I don't really notice FPS very much if at all. If the game is still going smoothly low FPS isn't a problem for me. I played games where the FPS was extremely low and the game still played and looked smooth. I have played other games that get 10 times the FPS and they aren't playable. The frames are there the game just isn't doing much of anything during them, or the it seems to control choppy. Not absolutely certain. I am suspect though that many of the video cards I have owned far out performed the rest of the parts in the PC.

I can remember back when I was playing Borderlands on a PC with a 2GHz single core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and a ATI Radeon HD 2400 PCI card for graphics. It ran fine. The only time it even was noticeable slow was when things like the skag spitters were covering me in liquid globs. I never had any problems with that game. I now have a 3.2GZ dual core, 8GB of RAM, and a ATI Radeon HD 7750 PCIe card. When I play borderlands 2 with it I get a extremely sick uncomfortable feeling that totally has ruined the game for me. I've managed to log over four hundred hours in that game even so. My little brother really loves that series and was always trying to get me to play. He has well over a 1,000 hours in Borderlands 2. Most of that he had to play by himself, and I couldn't put words to why.

I am not for sure if it is the FPS, resolution, FOV, or what. I just know I get a sick feeling when playing many games and it has driven me away from them. It has actually almost entirely driven me away from gaming altogether. I rarely if ever get that feeling when playing Minecraft though. The fps rarely goes above 40 and that high is usually a spike, The FOV is set at default. It is in windowed mode and maximized to fit most of a 1920*1080 Resolution screen. It just doesn't cover the task bar. I found this is a game I must multitask in. Alt-Tabbing just doesn't work for me. So I have it set up like this so I can easily switch out of it.

I still think FRAPS frame counter wasn't working in Runes of Magic back when I was playing it. FRAPS stated I was only getting 1 FPS. It never dropped. It never got higher. Yet the game was running extremely smoothly.
