Does anyone know a good way to design a base? I don't mean the material its made out of, but rather its shape. I'm tired of giant cubes (i'm not a very creative person). I'm on the mindcrack pack if it matters.

Giant rectangles?

You can pretty much do whatever you want. Find a nice RP volcano and build a volcano base, or maybe in the side of a cliff, heck even in the middle of an ocean. I usually start with a basic square and expand it as I need more room.

There isn't really a "good" way to design a base, because it depends a lot on the player and what they like. That's the whole point of Minecraft: You can do things however you want, especially when it comes to building.

If you're not a creative person in this sense, building underground might be a good alternative, because you don't have to think about how things look from outside, and using various combinations of different kinds of stone is likely to look good. Another tip is, if you're tired of cubes, make your buildings with rounded corners. It's not hard, and you'de be surprised at how much better things look. But if you really want desiging and building advice, you should take this to another forum, since your question doesn't have a lot to do with Feed The Beast specifically.

If, on the other hand, you're having trouble coming up with a good way to arrange your base so it's easy to mantain a big network of machines, pipes and whatnot, then your best bet is probably building underground, because you've got unlimited room for expansion and it's easy to move things around. For example, in my world the main buildings (storage, ore processing, farms, etc.) are above ground, but the power generation is in a big square basement, and my pipes and cables all run below ground.

Watch some your users build, like keralis , and get some inspiration, or replicate so,egging from real life (e.i. A castle).

I actually have some experience with this. I changed bases two-three times so far in my world because I was looking for a perfect base. The first new base was very technical, neat, and organized but I realized this was the overall worst thing about it. I don't think buildings should be perfect squares or circles. I think you should just add on to it until you are finished. So I decided to move once again. This new base I began with a storage area and expanded it as I needed to. I'll include some pictures.

When I get done with more important projects, I can pretty it up, add windows, etc. If you do not like the look of it, you can put it underground and all you have to worry about it interior.
