Hello ftb community

I've been playing MC for a long time but only just recently got into FTB.
Ive had a blast in my SSP world so far but I'm coming across some issues.
1. I disabled gregtech as was recommended but i find going the IC2 route so far has been a bit too easy. I want to enable it but with some modifications. What are the really big timesinks you would recommend turned off? Im in particular thinking about the matter fabricator. 100 times the energy req of the mass fab seems outrageous. Any way to balance this? Ive been thinking of increasing iridium frequency to combat this. Or just keeping the old mass fab. Thoughts?

2. My ftb experience has been a bit lonely so far. Ive been thinking of taking it online. I am however worried about getting all my precious tech destroyed or stolen. Im located in Sweden. What are my chances of finding a decent ftb server? Are there lots or do i need to go somewhere special?

thanks for the help
edit: thanks for pointing to the server promotion section. Im assuming whitelist means you need to apply and get added on a server permission list before playing.

Follow-up question 3. Won't people be fighting over resources considering gregtech and ftb in general requires tons?

If you go to the SMP Server Promotion section of this forum you'll find lots of servers. It is not hard to get on the whitelist for a decent server here, as most folks are quite friendly.

my guild is running a SMP server, but were all guildies across many, many different games. Basically everyones built a house somewhat centrally (my house is just a pair of beds i move one or the other with me) and some some basic IC machines, like hydro power a couple solar pannels and everyone has 1 generator, 1 electric furnace, 1 macerator. We have a centralized storage area where ive built a ton of barrels (basically one for everything cept mob drops), but no auto sorting just yet figured out. Four of us play around every day as our primary game and a few other casually play every few days or whatnot. We picked that we would excavate with our turtle army to the east and north. there is a ltitle river to the west and the houses are either log cabbins over there or dug out of the mountains across that river. Basically everyone else has a small little personial set up and they keep most of what they manually mine for their own projects, anything from the turtles goes to the central storage area for group projects. So far weve got 4 rotery macers, 5 furnaces, 1 extractor, 1 compresser and 1 rolling machine all powered from a decent hydro plant filling a lake with 40 or so watermills running to a MFE stepped down with a LV thingymajig. there is also a small manual potato, rubber, reed, oak, jungle, birch farms and there is sooooo much fir across the river weve basically used that for construction as atm it cant be used for anything else. we do have a tank of oil/fuel and a coke oven (with took all the clay we found in the local lakes/rivers) producing a bunch of that C-oil stuff for when we step into railcraft stuffs. Today am working on foresty and automating the farms and whatnot.

Each of us have different things they like to do. I like to organize stuff weve found and make machines for everyone to use. One guys an engineer that is working on programing our turtle army to do what we want it to do. One guy loves to go caving, one guys an explorer, ones tinkering with bees, ect. INitally it was a everyone get their self set up but now that the basics are covered were working together moreso. Each of us took a different dirrection for the manual mining till we got things squared away.

I honestly never considered playing with Randoms, just cuz there are alot of trolls out there. i urge you to be carefull on the server you go to, I am sure with how helpfull the community here has been to me and my questions this week, that there are ALOT of good SMP out there that are more then willing to show someone the ropes. just dont go to a pvp one as thats going to be dog eat dog.

Thanks! That's kind of the thing I mean. Considering the time it takes to do things in FTB I don't want to end up on a bad server that people abandon or destroy. Whitelist for sure!
