In settings, there's a bar that goes up to 1.0GB of ram. I crash. All. The. Time. I have all my settings on low, optifine installed, etc.

On my desktop it can go up to like 6GB ram or something, how do I increase this max on my laptop? I know I have more accessible, as only about 50% of it is used.

What happens when you are using a 32 bit computer?
You can't allocate more than 1 GB of RAM. You need Java 32 bit, and 32 bit Java can't read more than 1 GB.
(If I'm incorrect in this, someone please tell me)

Edit: in regards to your signature, I got 34 days.

Just a clarification, I believe the limit for 32bit WINDOWS computers is actually 2GB, as the architecture allows for up to 4GB, but windows likes to reserve 2GB for its own usage. If you happen to be running practically any 32bit linux edition, you can access up to 3GB, as linux only needs 1GB for its own usage.

EDIT: Further clarification - 2GB is the limit, not including overhead for the actual JVM, therefore bringing the realistic limit down to around 1.5GB (On linux you're looking at 2.5GB, in the off chance that you can't subtract decimals)
