Hey Guys I was wondering if I could get a bit of info on the gigantic ftb redwood trees from Natura, I want to make a base out of them however the problem I get is I was on a server where they seem to grow in a matter of seconds and instakill you if you aren't fast enough, I usually cut them down for wood....but one of the trees I saw was a 7x7 normally and the other i noticed was 9x9, HOW??? lol I heard you can also get VERY lucky and get a 13x13 which is what i would love to live it, any information you guys could throw my way to get this massive sized tree? Any info would be very helpful, thanks guys

The size of the tree is luck based as far as I know. You just plant the 7x7 patch of saplings and wait...and wait...and wait... If your server is growing them near instantly then you either have a bug or someone changed something with the mod for your server.(or is there a server command to do this?)

But ya, size of the tree is luck based

Thanks Hiroshi I set up an auto tree tear down system and ALL server seem to make them instagrow so I grew about 5.....until a bud on the server found 2 13x13 trees :D I took one of them while she took the other so now i can do my awesome base design, but thank you :D

Somewhere over the rainbow.
I had some experience connecting 2-3 of theses tree together, it might not happen exactly the way you want them to be, but it makes for an awesome base, I had made my base in one of them, it was awesome, already plan on building my magical related base in one of them in DW20 1.6.4 pack...

Since we're here, how do Lumber Axes work on them? Do they chop them down completely, or do they not recognise them at all, or what?

Not sure how they would react to Lumber Axes, but I've tested with TreeCapitator in 1.5.2, it nearly crashed the server, but once I've logged back in the tree was gone completely, but I had 0fps and so many drops around me that I had to delete a lot of the drops, I can't remember the command I used but I got rid of a lot of drops, it was impossible to move around... After that I added this tree to treecapitator blacklist to avoid any problems in the future (in part because my base was made in one of them and I didn't want to have troubles while building some areas in my base)

lumber axe chops them down when you reach a certain height, from the base it doesn't work...
even at your "chopping height" some of the block between the leaves don't get chopped

Actually, the 7x7 is no longer necessary. I've grown several of them with a single sapling recently, so it looks like this was changed.

at about what level above the base do you have to be to get them to chop?

as far as i can see i tested this on a server and trees seem to only instagrow on servers and the 1x7 row seems to work, is there a really good way to make sure that i can get the trees to line up? as i want my base to be a hallow 13x13 in the center (finished already :) ) and 4 7x7 or other 13x13's sorrounding it depending on what they become, and i want it to be dead center with the middle tree and hopefully the other 4 so they could be connected by bridges or a large circle.

i've tried Treecapitator for 1.6.4 and i'm not able to get them to auto chop, i have to break each individual block by hand... are they even registered with Treecapitator as trees anymore? or do we need to start the chopping process above a certain Y level from the base of the tree, as LoGaL suggests for the Lumber Axe mod?

Just do what i did, i used 2 fillers to autochop the top then the bottom off until i found a proper tree (which never happened so i found a 13x13 4,000 blocks out and am now terraforming the land around it to flatten every bit)

Treecapitator was probably disabled for theses trees in the new version (it make sense after all, a lot of people want to keep theses trees to build bases in them, I can't imagine how bad it would be if griefers had the power of Treecapitator on any server and start destroying multiple person bases by chopping down the Natura Redwood Trees... I know you can add a tree type manually in the config file to be ignored by TreeCapitator, that's what I did in 1.5.2, so I guess its possible to do the opposite and force a tree to be treecapitator compatible...
