Hey guys, I'm just looking for some quick input. I'm pretty sure its possible but I wanted to ask here. Is it possible to create a base underground and live completely underground and still be able to use everything in the unleashed pack? I'm talking about bees and everything. I know you can have underground tree farms and animal farms, etc..but I am just double checking on everything else. Also if you do have an underground base post some screenshots for all to see!

Thanks!

You can have bees if they have a trait which I forgot the name(Rocky bees got it)
Solar doesn't works(I know this is obvious)
Basically, anything which needs to have a sky view(Unless you leave a glass hole for it)
Anything which needs to be in an higher layer
If I remember something else,I will post later

Ah yeah, I didnt thikn about the bees needing a view of the sky...hmmm could create a giant skylight for them or just have bees above ground and nothing else. Thanks!

The main problem would be skylight. Though bees aren't really that necessary, they're convenient for a lot of things. You would also be opting out of solar panels as well as solar turbines.

The biggest problem would be space, how would you create it? In my case I had a mining laser set to explosive which allowed me to go to town on the inside of my mountain base. If you don't have access to that tool, you may have to get a bit creative. TNT, etc. is another choice, but how are you going to obtain all that gun powder. Mining it out by hand is an arduous task. Consider the amount of time it would take to clear out a space, even a 20x20 space (400 blocks). If you consider that it takes 1-2s per block that's 400-800s or 6-12 or so minutes. Ever expansion to your base's space needs would require this much time.

Like Matpower123 mentioned, you can breed the bees to work under ground. The trait is called 'cave dwelling', and can be easily gotten from the rocky / stony bees, or mutated in with serums if you use the extra bees-stuff.

On the occasions where I've done underground-basey-stuff, I've always used initial skylights over things needing sunlight, and then covered them up as I become able to alleviate the need. Outside, who needs it!

A buildcraft filler or quarry can work wonders when it comes to clearing out underground space. If you use a filler to clear room-like shapes, the power consumption isn't all that overwhelming since you'll only be running it for a short period of time.
Tinker's construct hammers (even ones made of really bad materials) can clear rooms right the heck out in no time.
Manual mining with vanilla tools is time consuming, but depending on your playstyle perfectly viable. I've often cleared large spaces while watching a movie or youtube stuff or something. It's nice for times when you don't feel like thinking too much.

Well, make sure you have some source of direct light to the surface if you want to breed bees and use solars and you're golden. I believe that as with RP covers you can use the multipart covers to shield your stuff from view and still let sunlight in.

Not thinking + minecraft = mistakes that consume time. >_>. I have to rebuild my entire hydroponics sections, simply because I built it one square of center with the rest of my base.

By all means think while building. I was only talking about digging out large sections with stone or iron tools ;). I prevent mistakes by laying out the area first, placing torches or some other marker where I need to stop digging.

I would soon rather die. Though I haven't dug out an area for a while now. Spamming mining laser is much more fun.

Most badass way to make room for underground base is a Nuke, but Filler works too.
And things that need skylight (mostly bees) work under-ocean too. Helps if you want to be stealthy.

That... is a very good point. Do you think a river would work too? I don't think all bees work properly in ocean biomes.

Why not, water is water and rivers are usually not a separate biomes.
Also, beehieves do work submerged in water (only problem is where to put flowers). And will not even change humidity to Damp :)

It would kind of work, but if you're aiming to stay hidden you'll probably have to make the river a bit deeper, first. In my opinion buildings under anything less than 10 blocks of water stand out very clearly. A bit of experimentation in a creative world might be helpful to you.

Say whut, now? Rivers are nearly always a seperate biome of type 'river'.

I played Ultimate inside the bedrock bunker of a Twilight Forest maze once. It was a PVP server so this was a perfectly sane and rational thing to do. I've also built some pretty nice and aesthetically pleasing Dwarf Fortresses since then. Honestly underground bases are probably my favorite.

For power I actually ran the maze bunker off of solar. Powerconvert the EU from hidden solar panels to steam (I used Red Power covers at the time), liquid tesseract the steam to your base wherever that may be, and then reconvert the steam to EU. Boom, lossless power teleportation from anywhere to anywhere and a unified energy grid. Basically, steam is awesome.

For carving big spaces out earlygame I would recommend turtles. They're cheap. Tinker's Construct also has this hammer that'll destroy blocks in a 3x3 area for quickly carving corridors and shaping intimidating thronerooms worthy of any dwarf lord.

Really? I shall now be able to substitute water and a desert for a jungle.

Thanks guys! My plan to clear out space is with the new TC tools, that hammer is awesome for clearing out space! Skylights are pretty easy to make and could position them over solar panels and bees if needed :) Or just have that stuff separate on surface with access tunnels to get to them without going above ground! Who knows, time to get creative!

I think that only bees need clear sky view. Tree farm needs high for high trees, dirt and light - torches will do fine.

But when you have imperial and industrial bees you can start making extra bees machines and get nocturnal, rainfall and cave serums which can be inserted into any bee - so then you can make alvearies underground.

Anythink else i think don't need sky view so you can be mole :)

I prefer making a base into extremely big mountain but i can't find that biome in 1.6 MC :(
