Getting the mana pool in Botania?

There is a pic of what I got setup ... less I am not getting something right, it isn't generating any mana whatsoever into the diluted pool, so I can't upgrade the second one I have made.

IIRC the lexicon states not to let any flowers on any of the four sides touch, and as you see I have a dozen of them there .... any help ?

Flowers cannot output mana directly into a pool. You're gonna need a mana spreader for this.
Point the spreader at the pool and place your generating flowers near it.
