I used to run direwolf20's modpack on my alienware pc a while back when I used to have 60mgb internet speed but now ive only got 5mgb and when im running trying to run a server its becoming too much for my router to handle as the upload speed isnt fast enough also port forwarding is causing a few issues. I was wondering where/what the best method for me to have a server for the direwolf20 modpack would be? I mean with the new modpacks coming out for 1.7 it will require alot higher specs to run properly with no lag. I know when looking online the websites dont always take into account certain modpacks being harder to run than others, but im only wanting a server that at maximum 6-7 people will play on, So I was just wondering does anyone suggest any websites or places I could have the server hosted for me?

I suggest hosts such as Creeperhost or Aim2Game. Both provide excellent support and have reasonable rates(Creeperhost is a bit more expensive, but they also have awesome DDos protection and fast response times to tickets.). If you need something cheap, I suggest Spartanhost. I can't speak for their support(Never used their support system. Didn't need it.) but their servers are decent and dirt cheap.

I have been using Hostwinds Premium VPS.
Whether it is them or others, you will need to limit the amount of chunks a player can keep alive.

Also flying fast is hard on small servers unless they have SDD

Me and a few friends recently switched over to a full blown dedicated rootserver. While it is quite expensive and surely overkill for a single server, the additional control is great after you got over the learning curve. Keep in mind that for root (and vps for that matter) servers you will need to learn quite a bit about linux, but there are great ressources out there.

The host you select is also dependent on where you live. I recommend checking reviews on them before making your decision. If you live in europe i can heartily recomend g-portal, they don't seem to oversell their slotservers either if you want the easy solution :)

In short: if you are willing to learn and spend some time administrating your server nothing beats root access. If you want an easy solution find a host that provides you with a slotserver and provides support for modded minecraft. Best is to write them a mail and ask them about what versions of FTB they run and maybe a few other questions to see if they know what they are doing.

Hm Im not too sure what you mean? Are you implying that I buy an actual server and run it from home?
Also I found what seems a good quality hosting company called "nitrous networks" But would 4GB be enough for me and say 4-5 friends to play on with pretty much no lag?

No. He means lease a dedicated server from a hosting company. You can also buy a server and colocate it at a Datacenter. I have done both for webhosting.

Your Best bet is to do a good premium VPS.

Just marketing language for "good quality". A VPS is a virtual private server. There can be several of them on the same physical machine. They tend to be cheaper then a dedicated(dedicated means you get a whole machine to yourself), but you don't have as much control and performance isn't always guaranteed.

Premium VPS is a generic term to describe VPS that may use SSD, Xen or KVM virtual machines, etc. I currently use the premium VPS from Hostwinds.

You basically have 3 options from least to most costly
1. Minecraft hosting companies, good ones won't cost you more than $8 per GB
2. VPS, a quality one will comes at about $8 to $12 per GB
3. Dedicated server, these are actually can save you more money per GB since you decide on the drive(s) and bandwidth amount and weither or not you want DDoS protection. It's however going to average you out on modern systems $100+ depending what you want.
