Running 1.6.4 using Forge 9.11.1.946, self created mod pack similar to new Direwolf20 pack w/ IC2,Thaumcraft,Railcraft,Natura, Highlands, ... . I'm using the Mojang launcher with a dedicated profile and have hand loaded mods into the mods subdirectory as Forge modloader wasn't yet available when I started.

I had a hard crash that terminated the the java runner and runtime window. I think I was clicking on an Applied Engineering crafting terminal with some unremembered tool active. OK.

So when I went to reload, the game is not showing up in the "Select World" list. However, it still is in the saves folder! I copied the whole saved game to a different folder under a different name but this, too, doesn't show in the "Select World list.

Any ideas what got messed up, why the loader isn't finding the save subdirectory, and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Sorry, it may be the wrong place. I'm using Forge so I thought it was related. Where do you think is the best forum?

MinecraftForge forums?
And try to be a bit more precise, so we can recreate it and look at the logs ;)
(and people at #minecraftforge on esper can be really useful sometimes)

Thanks, Andrej. I'll try there.
Actually I wasn't looking for anyone to fix the bug, just wondering if anyone has seen this kind of behavior where a game folder exists but is not listed in the Select World list. This just seems a little more bizarre than usual. I'm hoping I can just copy a missing file from a backup.

So I have had the same problem
My pc froze up for some reason, and after restarting the safe doesnt show up anymore. it is however still in the %appdata% folder.
so I tried to recreate this, i made a world and just turned of my power suply. and that did excactly the same. world doesnt show up but still in the folder.

If anyone knows how to fix this I'd be so happy

In future please create a new thread and not post in one that over a month old that has nothing to do with your issue. Also I would not just turn off your system by switching off your psu that can be very bad for your hardware.

Your world is most likely become corrupted and lost. Also the launcher should not be running from the appdata folder. Follow the guide here exactly.

so I was poking around and found a semi solution
upside: your world is back as it was, including chests and stuff you've build.
downside: your inventory is whiped.

I copied an "level.dat_old" from a different world and replaced the one in the corupted save, this somehow worked.
it shows up again, I can play it again, and after searching I found my base again :)

I hope this helps for other people too.
*edit: it helps if u use the same seed, I make my base near spawn and remembered my seed. I think that "level.dat_old" stores where the player is and what he has on him*

so a few things here:

first of all srry for replying to an month old post, I did not know this is not oke for some reason.
also I have never said that my launcher is running from inside my appdata folder, I ment to say that I could still see the world save in my appdata folder, just like Max said
the game is not showing up in the "Select World" list. However, it still is in the saves folder!
still besides all this I seemed to fix some of this problem and am now able to play my old world again.

Your world save will be where your ftb launcher is installed to unless you have it in a different place to your launcher folder. My own install of ftb has no save files in the roaming folder. It is always best to create your own thread because if multiple people start posting in the one thread then it gets messed up. Glad you got it fixed any way.
