I wonder if anyone can relate? Does FTB Monster just feel so bloody awesome. I haven't played for a while and it feels like coming home. Despite the frick of no Redpower I think the pack more than makes up for anyone's grievances. No Gregtech again which is kinda cool, though I do quite like it. Was a bitch though!

But seriously I'm so immersed right now, i'm like one of those Gameheads I read about in Red Dwarf novels as a kid. I can easily sit up all night tinkering around and building cool machines. I am having some problems with items falling out of buildcraft pipes though. I wouldn't be surprised if someone isnt making a workaround to the redpower tubes. Maybe I just don't know enough of the mods... I'm sure i'll get there soon enough. Considering the time devoted to this at the moment. I find myself with quite a lot of time and a nice new PC and a nice new Ftb Modpack. :)

Cheers guys... but hey................

Maybe it's time to start worrying when what's going on on your Minecraft server seems more real than real life?

Don't you agree?

1. Yes. The "real world" is a crappy modpack. I prefer torturing villagers and making huge contraptions for the purposes of mass destruction.

2. Monster has Project:Red, which despite not having frames or wireless redstone (the latter is now a chickenbones mod), is the spiritual successor to RP2.

3. The lack of Gregtech, for those strange goblins that enjoy that sort of thing, is somewhat compensated for by IC2e, which is greggified unnecessarily.

Jumping jehosevat... Red alloy wire. It was there all along.

I actually tried to do a vanilla redstone project and made a real mess. now it will be easy.

Lies!

Yeah, I'm really enjoying modded MC.. I can't go back to vanilla, even with the 1.8 updates. I went into my vanilla server and kinda went... meh.... Then logged back onto my DW20 server.
I think the thing I'm enjoying most is showing my friends what modded MC is like. Some folks just like vanilla, and that's why I keep that server going, but a few have taken the bait, and are now hooked.
I like all the options that modded gives you. Yes you can do things in vanilla, but modded gives you many ways to do the same thing. I like that.

I've been "addicted" to other games (WoW, EQ, Diablo) and I log into those from time to time, but I keep finding myself on modded MC more often than not.

Very very interesting videos. I feel that Minecraft is actually in a league of it's own, compared to a lot of other 'games' The things he talks about in the 3rd Video which smacks of the typical designer led mmo or quest based games... like having a sense of worth, of your character mattering in the virtual world. I think Minecraft takes this to another level of 'virtual reality' and i've often pondered the question... is Minecraft even a game??? I mean there is no urgent string of quests to do, you are NOT some game designer's bitch who has to collect this, go here, kill so and so (because you're told to) Minecraft is something else, something much more deep and intriguing. I suppose there are other games out there that challenge what we mean by 'game' but for me FTB with a ton of mods to tinker around with. Building machines to create power, to store power and convert power to do... what??? Ultimately all you can do is just gather resources, and improve how you gather resources. Yes you get stronger over time with armor and stuff, but since you've made it yourself, it feels much more 'real' than a game with dialogue which prompts you forwards.

To some who first start playing Minecraft it can be highly inscrutable. (My friends have told me) And I readily admit I couldn't consider myself much more than an adept with a handful of mods, by no means a master. And i've been playing since Minecraft beta days. The depth and scope of an immersive world which you can reshape and carve your own indellible will all over, has got to be considered (I think) more than a mere Game. We are talking virtual reality... and what is any reality but virtual. Trust me i've looked at a lot of Philosophy and Metaphysics, from modern day Quantum Mechanics to arcane sanskrit texts that are thousands of years old. Everything we perceive is through the brain. Our brains are living virtual reality generators. When we sleep we create a virtual world which we interact with... small difference that in our waking lives we have created a virtual world we can interact with. In fact, i've even noticed after sleepless nights playing Minecraft (I'm talking just stay up playing till the next day and stay up till the next night) I don't even feel that bad. Nowhere near as bad as if I had been staying up working or anything else. I reckon this effect (which is similar to what some drugs can do) is a sort of half life ^^ you are awake but you're sort of dreaming... and it's the dreaming that the brain needs to rest and repair itself. Lol, Now i'm not advocating people lose sleep for Minecraft. But I do think these are fascinating subjects, and I'm excited to what kind of virtual reality experiences may be going on in the future. Things like Science Fictions have touched on, cybernetic drugs (Lain) psychotropic, digital hallucinogens. Who knows, it's a brave new world. But What I do agree with those guys in those videos is, we as a gaming community should talk about our experiences, our best joys and our worst nightmares about gaming.

In the meantime i'll be compulsively mining for diamonds... seriously I just used my last few to get autarchic gates :)

Peace

Yeah I have times when all I want to do is play modpacks, but usually for me it's games in general rather than only Minecraft stuff. I just find games relaxing and a good way to just chill out.
Trouble is, I gotta manage full-time mechanical engineering university study so I have to drag myself away from games to get some progress done where it matters.

I do agree games in general can be very compelling and immersive. But again I feel there is a difference with Minecraft as it doesn't have that 'carrot on a stick' typre of cajolery that other games often have.

I am having some problems with items falling out of buildcraft pipes though. I wouldn't be surprised if someone isnt making a workaround to the redpower tubes. Maybe I just don't know enough of the mods... I'm sure i'll get there soon enough.

I only use Direwolf20 and TestPackPleaseIgnore.. although I do wonder, is ExtraUtilities or Thermal Expansion in Monster? I know Thermal Expansion Itemducts are VERY much like the old RedPower2 tubes, and ExtraUtilities Transfer Nodes have some similarities, but are also unique in their own right. Both don't have any form of "item on ground flood", however - if items get trapped in TE ducts or ExUtils pipes, they just stay there until there's a place to go. (Although if you're making a build which relies on the "backstuffing" of items, I would go the ExUtils way. Apparently there are a few glitches with TE ducts which may cause crashes when too many items get backstuffed.)

Yes I have discovered the TE Itemducts and the Transfer Nodes from Extra Utils, and am in love with both of them. I've not actually backstuffed any of them as I kinda anticipate problems. I just use a chest as a buffer.

So yes Thermal expansion is in Monster. In fact i'd say it's one of the most core mods now what with the new Redstone Flux...

Generally I think it's an awesome pack. I do miss Redpower, but for now there's more than enough to keep me sweet on that one. It seems most things you used RP for, have a workaround now anyway.

I disagree. It may seem addicting, but it is an easy addiction to kill. (Or that is just because I starteplaying in early beta)
