I feel like a major Minecraft noob because I really haven't messed around with Tinkering, various types of machines, managing power, automation, etc.

Is there a fun modpack that has quests or a tutorial or anything of that nature that kinda guides you along and teaches you how to do these things? Maybe by having you build certain things in a good order and then doing various tasks with the things you build?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Anything other than Agrarian Skies? I already played that with my wife and a friend, and unfortunately missed out on learning that stuff as the friend was a real Minecraft expert and blasted through most of that.

Unfortunately, I think the charm of AS is done even though I missed out on that part.

AgSkies by yourself (or with your wife) with no help on a different map maybe? And use different methods to do the same quests over as there is more than one way to skin a fish in modded minecraft. For example, if you used an Igneous Extruder to do the cobblestone quest, do it with something else this time. Maybe a block breaker. Or an autonomous activator. Or some other weird contraption. Because really, Agrarian Skies is really one of the best places to learn.

Unless, of course, your friend showed you all the methods to do all the quests.

Going to stick with my previous post:

I really didn't dig the mod in general. I don't think I like the whole Skyblock experience.

I was hoping there might be something else that also has enough of a directed experience that you learn similar tinker/machine/automation stuff.

Well, then maybe give out an idea of what you are expecting to do in the modpack besides learning how to use mods? Because, if it's learning AgSkies would probably be where you'd want to start. Not saying that you can't do it in other modpacks because if you're motivated you can learn in any situation/modpack, but Jaded did a really nice job of walking you through various mods and a progression line with the quests.

Are you looking to be fighting more mobs while you learn? Going adventuring(Wanderlust maybe)? What? I mean, like Crash Landing or Clouds of Darkness (both which has HQM) is what I'm playing most currently. You can learn there too but then again they don't exactly hold your hand and point out all the steps.

If you want to learn about the mods might wanna watch Direwolf20's videos. He explains them quite well.

Crash Landing is not a mod pack to use to learn mods - you have to *know* the mods in order to use them optimally enough to survive.

But, but, but.... I'm learning how to use SFM and pneucraft pretty well. And I'm learning how deadly enviromental mods can be. Not that hqm walks you through it but you can still learn about it:p (Besides I said, it doesn't exactly hold your hands).

I would NOT recommend playing Agrarian Skies to learn how to play modded MC. The recipies have been modded, so you would get an idea of how things interact, but not how to do it in "regular" packs.

I too suggest playing DW20 and watching vids. I find DW20 is the most accessible pack for players new to modded MC.

If you want to learn mods in a flexible and not-forcing manner, you should check out my pack Wanderlust Reloaded. There is a quest book with a chapter for each big mod that will guide you through the basics. Go check it out :)
