Hello,

When I download the server install file for linux, make it executable, and have even gone as far to install it a root vs. a user with sudo - I receive this toward the end of the install:

Target Directory: .
A problem installing was detected, install cannot continue
2021/08/24 16:17:44 Running forge installer failed with exit status 1. You may wish to install forge 36.2.2 for Minecraft 1.16.5 manually
2021/08/24 16:17:44 Installed!

Not sure what to do here. Attempted to locate the forge 36.2.2 file and add to the directory, but that creates another error entirely. Thank you for the help.

Make sure you have and use java 8 on that machine.
Thank you for the response. This is what is currently installed with Java 8 being selected. Do I need a different version of java than the 8 jdk listed?

------------------------------------------------------------
0 /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java 1111 auto mode
1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-11-openjdk-amd64/bin/java 1111 manual mode
2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-16-oracle/bin/java 1091 manual mode
* 3 /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java 1081 manual mode

Update - I uninstalled all Java versions off the server and reinstalled starting with 8. Still confusing as the 1.4.0 was running fine until I went to do the server install to 1.5.0. Thank you for your help.

If you are upgrading from 1.4.0 to 1.15.0, remove the forge jar and the start.sh
I had to do it in order for it to upgrade correctly. Probably don't need to remove forge, but it worked for me. (Make sure to backup first)
