Call it a low chance easter egg, some would say you got lucky.
I'd say you where lucky for having the sound muted.

I can't get the sound to work at all. I've tried everything. Yes I have clicked the music note in the top right but still nothing. Any ideas?

Music note, make sure your volume's on, make sure music and sound are enabled in options.

That's all I know. Since 1.3, I've had a slight issue where sound doesn't work period shortly after installing MC, playing around a bit on a world and/or with the sound options usually fixes it.
