When did you notice the lag? Is this an existing world or a new world? Fresh FTB install? Single Player or Server?

These suggestions might help. Also a console log in debug mode pasted to pastebin.com might help us find a cause. Look here for the guide to get it. If you are up for it you might also want to try reinstalling FTB and Java to make sure there is no errors in your install and that you have the latest version of Java. This step-by-step guide will help you with that. It contains a lot of easy possible mistakes in installing the FTB.

Since your world is new and not that developed this is what I suggest. If you do want to keep your save then back it up somewhere outside the FTB folder until you have done this. Delete everything FTB, Minecraft, and Java related off your computer. This will ensure that a previous install is not interfering with your new install. I've seen users not delete the previous launcher and folders and have it go to the old folder instead. Once you have done that download the launcher again and follow the step-by-step guide above to install FTB. Once done please post a console log in debug mode to pastebin.com and linked here if you still have difficulty.

Go to the options tab and from there you can change the amount of RAM you have allocated to FTB. The only restriction on allocating RAM that I know of is if you have 32bit version of Java you can only allocate 1GB of RAM. Be sure to leave about 2GB for Windows though.

Indeed, there is a slider in the launcher. You may also want to try having LESS ram allocated, because minecraft can be derpy with too much ram.

It depends on your OS. In windows XP you right click on your My Computer icon on the desktop and choose properties. In Win7/vista you need to click on the start button, or windows logo now, and then right click on the word computer and choose properties. Both will bring up a box that shows you the info about your computer. I'm not sure about Mac.

I also play on a fairly good spec laptop, it's a few years old but it was top spec at the time - a desktop Xeon processor, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 32-bit and a decent Nvidia mobile graphics card. My performance is intermittent, sometimes really good, but with frequent and severe spikes of 2FPS for a minute or so. I don't know what it is that triggers the severe performance problems. I have a fair amount of RedPower in my base including a few sorting machines and relays, three 36HP boilers, a Steve's Carts tree farm, and a bank of Router-filled furnaces feeding charcoal into a bank of generators.

easy fix for pc specs: go start->run-> dxdiag into run ->hit enter-> specs should be up on screen.
If you have a windows 8 pc like mine, you can use the search option (drag mouse down right hand side of screen from top to get to it) to find run

Make sure you only have 64bit java installed otherwise ftb will have a very laggy time running.

Umm.. Make a backup of you save, disable redpower, secrets room, buildcraft and xycraft. Check for lag. If you can play normally its one of them that is messing up, just go ahead and try every one with the original save until you find the one that is lagging. THen come back and tell us which one it was.

(And im sure its a mod because if the game worked fine before, it should still do it unless you changed your pc specs)
