FTB unplayable when Curse is down?

Details of the issue The Curse servers have either crashed, or are under attack. As a result, it is impossible for me to play Minecraft. Is there any way around this design flaw?

There is ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON why I should be unable to play a local, offline game just because a remote server is unavailable. Even Steam isn't that restrictive.

What's the exact error message?

Are you sure you're not mixing this up with Mojangs servers being down?

There was no error message. Clicking any of the game tabs in the Curse client simply hung forever with a busy cursor. When I tried visiting Curse's website, I received a notice that a live version was unavailable due to excessive traffic. I assume they were being attacked.

The situation resolved itself about 30 minutes later.
