We are looking for a capable person or persons to run a Minecraft server. We enjoy playing minecraft but we do not have the time to maintain a public server and play. We would like someone with knowledge to make a truly unique experience. We will supply the server, either through our webserver or purchasing one through creeperhost or similar companies. You run it, mod it, code it, play on it. Compensation will be discussed but don't expect to retire on it!

Minecraft is a great community game and obviously many options and directions to take it. We may start doing more with storylines and adventure maps for youtube also, but this is down the road.

Anyone interested in this please contact me either on Skype (kibbelznbitz69), this forum, or via PM. Please be able to provide your name, age, and reasoning of wanting to become an admin.

Experience IS required. You have to know what you are doing, and you have to be willing to keep everything as up to date as possible, and feed the community. I will help with this, but this will certainly be "your baby". Obviously we would like to have some sort of PVP sided server, but currently we will start from where we can start from and grow from there.

=)

Let me know!

You might be better just to go to the FTB server list and pick one. I personally a 1.1.3 unleashed raid/grief/pvp server.

Considering from how you wrote this I cant tell if your just saying your willing to pay for it or what. I can't tell what your waiting that a normal server wont provide.

Here's a quote from the Co-Founder of the community:

Its important to note we are not just looking for authority figures, or moderators, we are looking for admins, people that can spit out updates, make plugins function together, and perhaps write their own. Experience with setting up servers from scratch, not just clicking pre determined buttons off of an online host and selecting "update". We are looking to do something very custom, and this may need to be done by hand a lot of the time. Experience is very very important. No disrespect to those who have ran pre-launched servers or "1-click install" servers, but we want to make sure our team can handle what ever is thrown at them. Compensation was mentioned above; however I want to make it clear, though we do not doubt the capabilities of today's youth, Fail Gaming will be unable to "employ" or issue payments to anyone under the age of 18. Regardless, all ages will start on volunteer basis and grow from there the outcome is however far you can bring the server. This will be discussed on private terms, not on forums.

Basically, the community of Fail Gaming is looking to rebuild to become what we once were. The problem is, due to other events, we do not have the time to sit down and dedicated time to fully administer a Minecraft server to bring it to it's maximum capacity. We are looking for dedicated admins that will spend the time to make the server what it needs to be to become successful. The server will be sponsored by, ran by, and hosted by the Fail Gaming Community.

I think you should be a bit more open as I've been down this road before and it can turn ugly. As you simply stated: "The server will be sponsored by, ran by, and hosted by the Fail Gaming Community."

Please tell us what events are preventing you (or your community owner) from dedicating time to administer a server. What big plans could you possibly have that he doesn't want to invest time in? Is this guy going to armchair quarterback the whole time? Also, explain why someone with the experience that you require should join your community instead of running their own rack. How often is the owner going to be around? Does he know how to run a server? Is he going to come change settings behind our backs without discussing it first? Is he going to read the documentation that I spend hours on before asking something silly like 'why can't I can't SSH in as root?'

I looked at your website forum post and it’s stated that you are not open for revealing the background of your admin with other servers. Why not? Furthermore, is this actually a co-admin job? Why do I care what he has done in the past if this is “my baby” as described in your post. Why would someone take this job (because that’s what it is) if the posting is so secretive about the leadership already in place?

All that said, I've seen many of these posts here and it's nice to see someone at least willing to offer compensation for time and it’s presented in a decent manner. I think you need to sell yourself to us and not the other way around. If you want someone to just hop on and agree to do stressful work at odd hours of the night without asking all of these questions first, then you are not getting the right person for the job, e.g. the guy who already applied on your site on October 28th.

Edit: feel free to PM me any answers but I’m sure others may like to know them now that I’ve asked.

Hello Pherce,

Thank you for the well worded reply, I will respond within the reply, because I would like to respond to everything as best I can.

I think you should be a bit more open as I've been down this road before and it can turn ugly. As you simply stated: "The server will be sponsored by, ran by, and hosted by the Fail Gaming Community."

[[ I am not quite sure what you are referring to as open, open for what we want with the server, or open to details about us in general?]]

[[ Minecraft is not our focus, we enjoy, it, and may even look at playthroughs or youtube series down the line with it, but for the time being, we recognize its a great game, and we would like to have all possible doors open to people to join the community. We are a gaming community, currently just local, working on branching out. Our main Staff will be working on competing season 4 with League Of Legends, so we are not able to focus time on both learning, and admining a server full time, or even part time. We have the ability to host, we don't have the staff to run everything currently, my goal is to hire on staff, and go Live with the new community, the more Avenues I have to offer, the more interest I can go after with members. Minecraft has a great community, and a great following behind it. I would like Fail to be able to share in that community and add our own "flare" to it.

We are not a minecraft only community, we are Competitive PVP Gaming community. As the community manager I do not play minecraft full time, but I recognize the community building tool it can be, and it is in fact a fun game. FTB has been a lot of fun for us during our down time. I personally know little about hosting and running a server, I have done other things within administration for MMORPG's such as Administration Assistant work, Lead Game Master, League Administration, and things along those lines, but very little with actual "server running", mainly administration roles... needless to say, you won't be receiving any questions about shell operations, roots or anything else, because I will be hands off. Kibblez is my lead when it comes to these things, he has the knowledge I do not, and is co-owner of Fail. He will also remain hands off, unless help is requested.

Kibblez just got married, and during his down time, is helping me build, during OUR down time. He will be competing season 4 with us. Along with this, he is also building/branching the community and working with local comic book shops and we are getting into MTG, we are looking into sponsoring some tourneys for it, and he is starting a small local team for that as well. With all this time into our hobby, he also works full time as a systems administrator, and me general Office work. We all specialize in specific areas, and we would benefit from bringing in someone that specializes in this, and our specialties can accent theirs into something very successful.

The lead Minecraft admin we bring on will be very much in control, the server will be ran how they want it (within reason of course) and we will not want any sort of administration roles at all on the server when we play. We do not need to stroke egos with admin tags and god modes and that nonsense. As when I ran GM Teams, my trust goes into my team, I do not hire people in I do not feel I can trust to get the job done, and I have no intention of babysitting or micromanaging my team, that defeats the purpose of having a team, however, I am always in contact, and always open to discuss or help how ever I can. ]]

I looked at your website forum post and it’s stated that you are not open for revealing the background of your admin with other servers. Why not? Furthermore, is this actually a co-admin job? [[ Perhaps this is my fault for not explaining fully. I know admins, I've worked with them, and ran them before, I've known admins that can handle running 10 servers, and I've known admins that can barely handle 1, and use the other 4 as excuses to lag in progress. As dickish as it may sound, I have no interest in the excuses relating too "sorry Ive been so busy with X server, its been really busy". This isn't to say I don't understand situations of freak hardware failure, crashes, or even hackers, but the normal day to day, if you cant handle the position, along side other responsibilities, don't take the position.

We currently have NO Minecraft staff, past myself and Kibbelz and Anythinger, but, as I have mentioned a number of times, Minecraft is not OUR focus, we enjoy it, but we would rather bring someone in that can do a better job then we can. Ideally we would like to bring in a head admin to move forward or even start new and take our server to the next level, I am happy to help do the research and find out exactly that is, and see if we can do it with my lead admin (when we have one) to be involved that way I can do, think tanking, Community assisting, website, moderating, these are things we can assist with. There is no Co-Admin unless the head admin we bring in wants one. As i said, this is their baby, whatever they think or know they need, we will provide to the best of our abilities or search out for it if its not within our abilities. . You are correct though, this is in some ways a Job, a responsibility. I worked free for 3 years 20-30 hours a week as a Player GM before working my way up to lead Administrator and getting a paycheck. (While maintaining personal life, a "real life" 40 hour a week job, and teaching/instructing most nights and weekends at my old highschool, I am not gloating here, I am just trying to point out, I am not the sit back/armchair kind of person.. I have many other avenues I am chasing aswell) I treated the responsibility as a responsibility and I would hope others have the pride in their work to do the same. I am WELL aware this is not the majority, but I know theres people, who have the work ethic to do it. Please do not think I am going to be making phone calls at 3am or throwing tantrums when my admin goes out of town for a week or something, as long as we know, and I can have someone keep an eye on things why they are gone. I hope that clarifies it a little better, feel free to ask more questions, I don't want to go through multiple examples, just understand I am not trying to be unreasonable or overbearing. ]]

[[ Again, I really appreciate the questions asked, we aren't trying to be secretive when it comes to things, we just don't have any SET direction for Minecraft other than we want to introduce it to the community as an option, and use it as a tool to grow. I do not go into great details about money, because as I stated above, I have done this before, and I am not going to promise a paycheck and get nothing out of it. My goal is to have a successful server. I am still going to speak vague here as I do not know if it violates any forum rules or what not, and again, I am not going to promise anything, any real talks of compensation will be had on skype, Phone or in person if they live locally. After operating cost are covered, I have no issue with feeding the admin what ever percentage of donations, Twitch/Youtube contributions, or other areas of donated/sponsored income come in. None of us are looking to retire on this, this is a hobby, and for me, its a hobby I enjoy quite well. It is not my breadwinner, if I can make my team happy, and have successful servers and community, I am happy.

I apologize if this sounds nonchalant, but I want to be as honest and forthcoming as possible.]]

I hope these answers better explain things.
