Is there anything that would make crafting as intuitive as the project table or the fabricator did?
Needs to be an early game solution, too, of course, since AE and logistic pipes autocrafting comes into play much later.

That wasn't what he asked.
He wanted to know if something served the functionality of throwing items into a crafting inventory and crafting using that method.

This should be obvious, but what do I know?

In response to the actual question, there is actually a replacement. Using the crafting terminal from AE pulls the items in the crafting recipe from your network in a similar manner to the project table.

I have the same question as the OP and while the crafting terminal is awesome it certainly is not an early game item.

It's not exactly end-game to throw a bunch of iron, quartz, glass, redstone, gold or the odd diamond or two into a crafting bench. Especially not when EE3's concerned.
Mid-game I suppose, fair point.

If we're looking for early game then I suppose there isn't one, really. None that I can think of really.
If I'm right in saying this, the question there-in lies, do you want this to remain "vanilla" to unleashed or do you want to install other mods?

Keeping within the actual parameters of the question, i.e early game solutions, the vanilla crafting table with help from NEI is more intuitive now than it was in 1.4.7 and it is an early game solution. If an internal inventory is important to you then the worktable from forestry might be useful to you. http://forestry.sengir.net/wiki.new/doku.php?id=crafting:worktable. I haven't used it myself so I can't say for sure but it sounds like it might meet your (the OP, and anyone else interested) needs. I will say though, the reason I haven't used it is because NEI and crafting tables is usually enough to tide me over until I get to the applied energistics phase of the game.

I only ever really used a fabricator for EE3 conversions, considering Ultimate's bug with Factorization that made converting a pain in the backside. I can't really see it used as a Project Table in that sense as much as I could call the Automatic Crafting Table from RP2 a project table - But then that mod HAD the project table.

But I digress.

If you're desperate for a project table, here's the replacement mod. It should work seamlessly with Unleashed, though I haven't tried it.

Another thing that might work in a similar way to the fabricator for autocrafting builds is the cyclic assembler from thermal expansion. I don't think it would be useful for manual crafting like the project table. But it excels at repeating one crafting recipe over and over again, especially in a production line. Strategically placed cyclic assemblers can take out a lot of tedious crafting steps like arranging all those sawdust piles into chunks so you can turn them into charcoal. They also use plans similar to the project table so it might be possible to replicate some of the uses you had for the project table while costing power. It can be got at roughly the same time as the pulveriser.

Forestry work table all the way, as I also posted this on a similar thread. Take look first..

Not exactly an early game solution and by no means the most practical, but I believe Buildcraft have an Automatic Crafting Table that uses lasers in a similar fashion to the assembler.
Again - never used, so I can't vouch for this.

Why has no one mentioned the arcane worktable? It doesn't have any storage space, but it keeps your crafting recipe until you take the item out.

Eh... I think they're after the functionality of pulling from an inventory. Though that worktable is useful as hell in a pinch.

Forestry's "Worktable" is what you want. it has an internal inventory, and stores the last 8 crafting config's you've used on 'speed-dial'. You can have one table for a lot of items that take similar materials and just keep it stocked. And it's very early game friendly at the bargain price of a crafting table, chest, and a book.

Yes, Forestry's Worktable will do fine for now.
Too bad it doesn't have the capability to pull recipes from NEI, then it would be perfect.

The clipboard from dartcraft can pull recipes from nei and works basically like a portable project table except using your inventory as the storage space. It is also fairly early game, although obviously it isn't something that can be automated.

Better late than never?

If your looking for early-game automated crafting, you could combine the Auto Workbench (or other type of ACT) with an AE-based storage system. AE would provide for storage and keep the table supplied with inputs, as well as collecting the outputs. If using the workbench, you'd be limited only by its speed (5 sec per craft).

ME Interface next to the ACT, set to export what the ACT needs and an Import bus to collect the ACT output.
