So, just started a new Unhinged server for a few guild mates and myself to test this new "hardcore" pack, and I have to admit its a bit challenging. Anyways, I was wondering how I should go about getting power on this server other than nether pumping or boilers. (Not a fan of either). I'm sure I could figure something out but I am just curious as to what everyone else is doing, so post below with your setup ideas and even pictures. I need inspiration!

I'm not sure what the Unhinged pack has, but currently I am using 50 Mekanism Heat Generators and occasionally a Bio Generator for my current 12 or so machines. Apparently that's not enough, so I'm gonna build some solar generators.

You could take a look at the link in my signature, it's got quite a long list of generators, and has come quite useful for even me.

I just started Unleashed with some mates, I've done everything else before so this time I'm doing everything with MFR. Bioreactor, Bioengine and a farming setup that's all now self-powering and I had it all set up before I had a roof over my head (Just because I was based in a volcano and had other things on my mind than building a house). I am using Tinkerer's Construct for my ore processing though, so you will need to find a way around that.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I will be using Factorization solar boilers as my mid game power gen, once I get enough silver to make all the mirrors. If you have the 1000+ silver you need to make such a setup then go for that instead.

unhinged is mostly GT based, so fission and eventually fusion reactors.
expensive beyond belief, but insanse output to match

There are also steve's carts and minefactory reloaded as options as well. Not sure when difficulty the MFR machines have been configured for, if it is using GT recipes, some of machines may not be available early game.

I've used IC2 biofuel in diesel generators successfully before. (It requires a lot of steps, so an AE network is almost a must.) Most of the time, you will have a mix of power sources. If you can get a farm producing items and a centrifuge, you could go methane. It only nets 20k eu on its own, but scaled up, or in conjunction with other sources, it could be quite handy.

If you have BoP turned on and find a badlands biome, you could go the lithium route from the clay. (Can also generate clay from the sludge boiler when using MFR harvesters.)

GT really has a large array of power sources you can use. You are really only limited by your imagination.

Another good option is Netherwart. Centrifuge that to produce Methane Cells and pump them into gas turbines. You get the cells back and can then use them again. Needs several Centrifuges though.

My current base is using steam to power all the GT machines (steam upgrade). This works fine on the tier 1 machines, but is a little crazy on tier 2 as each machine requires 3 liquiduct connections to run continuously. The steam is created by 2 max size HP boilers currently (1 solid, 1 liquid). This is being fed by an MFR tree farm using fertilizer. I am harvesting leaves and converting to biomass, then into a still for ethanol. The solid fuel boiler is running off charcoal. I will eventually have 2 more boilers. One running off creosote oil from about 50 coke ovens and another running from something I haven't decided yet.

My eu production is rather limited at the moment. I only have a a single gas turbine running off methane feeding an MFE for charging tools and such. I'm still working on finding some more platinum to get my second iridium plate needed to make a matter fabricator. Once there, I will start working on my eu production in earnest. I just don't have any other uses for eu at the moment as all the GT machines are running off steam.

First one is Soartex, the latter ones are Sphax.

Sphax is steampunk, Soartex is umm... More industrial/darker in a sense? The textures are more "square" and the lighting is dimmer. Sphax is cartoony. I feel like I'll be alternating between these two and vanilla. The game always gets more exciting when you switch texture packs for some reason.

early game nukes are your best bet if youre avoiding boilers, combined with storage devices and redstone control. look up some starter mark 1's with an efficiency-3+ design and you're getting over 3 million EU for every uranium you pull out of the ground. Startup costs are actually very low and you can scale your reactors when you need more power eventually. If you're set on EU, use charcoal in generators for your early game grinding power or TE grinding with a basic engine.

You could also do a combustion engine array on oil/fuel, but that's similar to a boiler.
