I uninstalled Minecraft and FTB, updated Java, and I'm still getting this problem from a reinstall. When I try to run Ultimate, it sits at the Mojang loading screen for a while, and then produces this error: http://pastebin.com/vWwxqLWM

Oddly, I'm able to boot other versions of FTB just fine, so it appears to be a problem specific to Ultimate. What's going on?

I think that I may know what your problem is. Are you running a 64 bit version of java? I've recently had this problem and updating from 64 bit to 32 bit fixed it for me. If you don't have 64 bit, under the config/options tab of the launcher there should be a button that directs your straight to the latest version of java in a 64 bit version.

I'm fairly certain I'm running 64 bit Java, the crashlog shows:
  1. Java Version: 1.7.0_02, Oracle Corporation
  2. Java VM Version: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (mixed mode), Oracle Corporation

Wow, that's super weird. I hadn't even looked at the specific version number, because I'd just updated Java to patch 51. In the control panel it even tells me "build 1.7.0_51-b13". I suppose I should uninstall and reinstall Java?

Yes. Uninstall ALL versions of Java; check it's install folder in Program Files to make sure you've gotten to make sure it actually did uninstall. Then reboot and install Java 1.7.0_51 x64 from here:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html

Likely what happened is you installed the x86 (32-bit) version of Java 1.7.0_51, so Minecraft picked the older version since it was 64-bit.
