Hello! MY name is Niko, and I will keep this short and simple. I am looking to start a new FTB whitelisted server, and I am looking for someone who can host it. Here's the issue: I can't pay a monthly fee. Please do not give suggestions of cheap services or tell me I am cheap, I just can't. I would if I could. Now, I would love to start this project with someone, that can host it for me. Do it however you want, as long as it is: 24/7, minimal lag would be apperciated, atleast 10 slots. Now, it would be a server for close, serious people we trust and youtubers. (My channel at: www.youutbe.com/MrNikosChannel) I would record on the server, and you (The person who can host it for me) and I would be in charge. We would not cheat at all and do everything legit like everyone on the server, we would use the mindcrack server, and be established, just like the mindcrack server. Can anyone help me with this? If so, post and we can talk further.

Hope to see anyone who would want in! :) (Oops, wasn't short at all.)

Then you do not get a server. End of story. Good servers cost between $11-$80 a month depending on the performance and configurability and control you get. They are not free, and you've given no one any motivation to sponsor you.

Here's the issue: I can't pay a monthly fee.

Then you aren't going to have a server. As KirinDave stated: Servers cost money (even hosting a server on your own computer, which you can do, will cost you money in the power/bandwidth used). Even BAD servers are going to cost you SOMETHING. Please do NOT beg for free hosting, as that is pretty rude, and fairly pointless.

Your best bet is to join a pre-existing FTB MindCrack whitelisted server as you do not, currently, have the ability to pay for a server. This may not seem "fair", but the world isn't "fair". It is just. So please, don't even try and argue this point as it will just go around in circles.

You can make your point without trying to sound superior. I was looking for people who would want to help me, and if there is no such person, and if you are not that person, don't bother with posting :/

Check your hand again; you aren't holding a victim card.

You can find sponsors, but you'd need to give people a reason to sponsor you. You may be a terrible person or an awesome person. We just don't know. My advice is to try and do something that shows people you're worth sponsoring then as for a sponsorship. That way it's a give-and-take relationship.

For example, I'd sponsor Forgecraft in a heartbeat if I get a thank you credit every month or three from them in their videos. That'd be a good value for me. They don't need it, and I haven't offered, but that's just an example of what you might want to try doing. SSP and Youtube are fre and lots of people try to stand out with great Let's Play series for MC.

I do understand your point, but I'm not even trying to hold a "victim card", it just sounded as you weren't even trying to make an point, just be superior. My mistake, all I am saying, is if someone's not gonna help, they do not need to post. And truth be told, this post was a shot in the dark, i have nothing special to offer for anyone to sponsor me. I'm just a regular person trying to set up a server, I have nothing special of interest. Just trying to reach people who wants to setup a server with someone.

I'd say that KirinDave and I are both helping you in the only way you are likely to find help in this situation.

Now, if you package up a good reason for someone to spend 20$ to 50$ of their own money on you, monthly, then you may have a chance. But I doubt you have the internet presence to make this worthwhile for anyone to make money back, and as such, it is an extremely small chance if at all.

What about setting up a small server on your own computer? You can use a DDNS service to have a hostname for people to connect if your IP is dynamic, and even if your computer is not all that powerful it should be able to handle at least three people, maybe five.

How does this sound?

I know you're trying to help. It sounds good, although´I' ve already done that, it's no good. My pc is powerful, but my internet connection is not reliable, and also then I have to keep my PC on 24/7. Thanks, but I guess there isn't the option for me to setup a server. I do know it's hard. I'll think about my options though.

As a note, you should be keeping your computer on 24/7 if you can handle the additional heat load into your room, as well as power costs as the worst possible state for a computer to be in is the start up state. That is when things die. If you keep a computer running, it will likely run until the power supply melts. Most servers are kept running until you replace them for warranty reasons (be it official, or a warranty of peace of mind in new hardware). But I can understand if the heat/power/sound load is too much to deal with (one of the main reasons I made sure to get a spare room in my place for my computer systems).

The internet connection issue is likely the killer though, so yeah, unless you are able to get that resolved (should be possible), it is a no-go.

Besides that, though, you are likely down the creek without a duck in the world as far as getting a server of your own sans cost. And, not to hit this nail on the head again, but the cost of hosting a server is usually only twenty to fifty dollars a month. That is not all that much in most cases, although if you are younger than your local legal working age it would mean getting odd jobs such as mowing lawns/etc. And if money is just tight, then that makes sense, as well.

If you have any more information to put into this, tell us, and maybe we can help. But otherwise, finding a good server and helping them by being a great player, and then possibly helping them operate it is your best option. Good luck!

I'd like to thank you alot for your suggestions. My PC is pretty quiet, so I could keep it on 24/7, it's just I've always thought it's not the best thing to do since it eats power like a horse drinks water after a race. But it could work. Honestly, I am upgrading my internet to a better package so I'll be getting twice the speed. Hmm. With all these things considered, if I just always kept my PC on I could in theory host a proffesional server.. To be honest, money is pretty tight, that's why I can't pay an monthly fee, no matter how low. I don't have a monthly income, I am 15. Thanks for your advise, this might be possible after all if my internet peeps would get their head out their ass. :)

Yeah, it can use a lot of electrical power, but when nothing is happening modern computers don't use all that much power. A BIG thing to remember is to make sure your monitor's timeout setting is fairly quick (five to fifteen minutes) as monitors don't usually have a power saving setting, and they use a LOT of power.

And with a stable internet connection, you can surely get a server going. Also, if you do end up making a userbase, you can then ask for donations from them which might be enough to pay for getting a hosted server, or enough to buy a dedicated computer for the server so you can store it somewhere out of the way.

Good luck!

I'm actually hosting my own server on my own system for a few friends of mine (my policy is that I only accept people that I know well enough to know that they won't screw stuff up, and if they do that live close enough that I'd be able to blast some death metal at midnight outside their homes) but thank you for the offer. I have a feeling you'll get a LOT of traffic if you set up a post in the server area, as I check through it every now and again (curiosity is another form of laziness!) and usually see a good deal of people looking for servers.

Well thanks! I'll start working on this :)
