I don't have a very good computer, so I was excited when FTB Lite came out, thinking it would just be the big essential mods, without all of the small tidbits thrown in. I was hoping for mods such as BC, IC, OpenBlocks, TE, TC, NEI, MFR, TiC, and maybe even FZ. What I got when the pack came out was a lot of little non-essentials thrown on the very bare minimum possible. It just had MFR, TE, and Open Blocks, with a few other mods thrown in. Was findus fillies really necessary? I doubt I will ever think of using Infinibows, switches, or fancy fences. Agriculture is a good mod, but I could go deeper into the pack if it was swapped out with TC. Why not drop Fancy fences, evoc, and redstone arsenal for TiC and FZ. These are mods that I, and possibly others, will probably never use outside of aesthetics. I personally prefer a few larger more complete mods over a large number of small little tidbits thrown in randomly, and I am sure there are others that would agree.

Because it it not just a question of number of mods, but how well these mods work on lowend systems. And the team did not want to put in large resource demanding mods(which those that you mention are) into the pack that was supposed to run on bare minimum systems. If your computer can handle those mods you mentions, then you have the choice of adding them yourself, or take the step up to another modpack.

The mods in FTB Lite is the bare minimum which also allows you to set up some machinery and automation.

In your situation, I would probably download the Direwolf 20 1.64 pack, and start removing mods that you don't consider essential until your game runs at an acceptable level. The "larger, more complete mods" you're looking for are not in FTB Lite because, well, they're larger.

I did what Bagman817 wrote - simply eliminate mods from DW pack - made pack which i made for vanilla launcher and added 2 more mods which aren't in any pack (87 mods) - works preety good.

First mods which you must remove are Thaumcraft 4 and Morph mods - lags from auras and whisp generation/ Morph need a lot of processor power when you "morph" i almost all the time when first morphed into some mob had crash due to low memory. Also change config for AE to eleminate shiny cables which generate lag. Use opaque ducts from TE3 - almost no lag and they work the same like the fancy ones.
