Details of the issue:

Minecraft launches and starts to load, Forge goes through the whole "Loading Mods Stage 1/7" thing on the screen fairly quickly, then it goes to "Initializing Mods 2/7" and goes fairly quickly up to CoFH Core, where it stops responding and crashes.​

In one of forge config files you can disable the load screen. Try that.
You should also make sure your graphics drivers are fully updated.

Okay, I've done that: the latter did nothing. Now what happens is the game loads, and the Minecraft screen goes black and Minecraft music starts playing. If I click random parts of the screen I get the same sound I'd get if I clicked a menu button. Do you know how to fix this?

Yeah, never mind, I read through the link. Maybe I should upgrade my potato battery power pack.
