Hi.

Has anyone recompiled the FTB Launcher to dump the connection to the FTB site etc, thereby avoiding this thought police requirement to have modpacks authorised?

I'm thinking something in the line of:
  • point it to a different site to download the list of available modpacks from
  • list only those packs you want
  • put your pack at the top of the list or as the only modpack available
  • replace the news with your news instead of FTB news
This will get rid of the issue of having to wait for your pack to be manually authorised/reauthorised every time you update a mod within your modpack.

I'm hoping somebody has looked into this already to save me the time of doing it all myself.

Kind regards,

Ian.

Actually yes, we have one of those. Right here. We went to a lot of effort to make it nice and everything, but no one seems to like it.

Jokes aside, MCUpdater is a very nice customizable launcher. You don't really want to go to the effort of pointing the FTB launcher somewhere else, once you get into the code of it, you'll realize it would be much simpler to write your own launcher from scratch.

Hahaha on the Curse Voice client....

I haven't seen MCUpdater before but I'll certainly go find the code. Like the FTB Launcher I see it has the same good open source Apache licence 2.0.

On the case of basing it on the FTB Launcher, the strong point of open source is that you can hack it to your hearts content simply dumping or using whatever you want. Generally quicker than starting from scratch unless the code is in a terrible state, which it doesn't at first glance seem to be. However, having a choice of two to hack from is always better. Thanks for the heads up about MCUpdater.

I've gone through MCUpdater specs etc, and it seems dead useful and precisely fits the use case I outlined above. If it all holds together as well as it is documented, then it makes a lot of sense to use as-is.

This meets the real primary objective I have of giving our group a simple one or two click procedure to get our customised modpack installed and running so they can connect to the server. The bonus is that it works like Technic Solder and lets you only download your updated mods instead of hitting the server with a 200mb download per user unnecessarily.

Technic Solder was a #$^%*# to install due to real minimal documentation - though the interface is great once you have it running.

Kind regards,

Ian.
