FTB Interactions Astral Sorcery Question

So my friends and I are playing a FTB:I server and I am doing the magic portion but when it comes to Astral Sorcery I have hit a roadblock where I can not seem to get rock crystals to increase purity. I have dumped over 16 buckets of Liquid Starlight onto a max size rock crystal but it will not split. Am I missing something? Do rock crystals not split in this modpack? Also do i need to pick up the crystal after each attempt? I have mostly been just leaving it in a hole while adding starlight and only picking it up very infrequently. According to what I have read it should have a 1/6 chance to split so I should have gotten something by now, unless I am just very unlucky.

I found this in the ftb: interactions config files for astral sorcery:

crafting {
# Set this to false to disable the chance to get a 2nd crystal when growing a max-sized one in liquid starlight. [default: true]
B:canCrystalGrowthYieldDuplicates=false

So it appears that you cannot double a crystal and cannot increase crystal purity in this pack.
