Sorry this is a newb question, but I'm just getting into FTB and I'm trying to decide what modpack I should focus on. From what I can tell Monster has more mods, but Infinity is a newer pack so wich one would you recommend?
Definitely Infinity.
You probably shouldn't play packs for Minecraft 1.6.4 anymore. Most mods aren't maintained anymore for 1.6.4 and Monster is generally outdated.
Infinity is defenitly the one that will get updates. If you are playing Single Player(i.e. not a server) and are interested in the mods that are in Monster but not Infinity, i believe most have updated to 1.7 now, so it shouldn't be too hard to add them in if you desperate for them.
Monster is good, but really laggy for me anyway. I didn't get much out of it.
Infinity is definitely the pack you will want to focus on if you want to get the better experience. It is updated and has the better mods imo.
Definitely Infinity.

To add to this... with 1.6.4 modpacks you will be forced to use java version 7, because the old Forge is incompatible with version 8. What this means is that you will have to run an older, outdated and un-updated java, which can be a security risk. If you're technically inclined, you can run two versions of java and set it up so older packs use v7 and newer packs use v8. However, I chose to not go thru all that hassle and decided to only play the newer modpacks now. My older worlds are still saved but I doubt I'll ever play them again. That does kinda suck, but in our "faster, better, bigger stronger" world, the only constant is change... at an ever-increasing pace. Some might call it madness (do we really need a new cellphone every 6 months?), but I digress as usual.
