By any chance did you have a quarry running in the twilight and turned the server off and then turned it back on and then the problem started happening?

Thanks for the reply

the server hasn't been running for long (3-5 days) so no one is that far along yet. My friend walked in a particular direction and he crashed. now whenever he logs in he crashes the server. i would just make a new world but if its a particular block doing this then it would only do the same again, so i thought i would get a second opinion on the situation :)
