i am in the middle of playing, and then all of a sudden FTB crashes to my desktop.

I cannot tell where you have your launcher or packs installed, but I can tell that you are running a very old version of Java. Please follow this guide exactly. After that if you are still experiencing any errors please post a console log in debug mode to pastebin.com and link to it here. This guide should help with the logs.

Do what lavarthan said, and also: update graphics drivers, use less RAM. This error seems to happen when you have a weak, old PC.

I'm getting a similar error. I have tried reinstalling and launching with a different mod pack. Minecraft works fine, but FTB does not.

I tried disabling all the mods in the mod pack and starting minecraft through FTB. It now works, but there is NO sound. When I enable sound on in the minecraft options, Minecraft crashes to desktop. The vanilla version of Minecraft works and has sound. I'm not sure what FTB Minecraft is doing with the sound driver?

Update LWJGL. It contains the OpenAudioLibrary, which is crashing.

I tried that, but when I run the launcher again, the files I updated are downloaded again and overwritten by FTB. Is there something I'm missing?

Well I tried it again and this time it worked. Not sure why. Thanks for your help. I wish I knew how I fixed it.
